You are correct--sort of...

Without looking it up, I'm not sure of the percentages, but when a team gets a bowl bid (BCS or otherwise,) that team gets a percentage of the bowl payout and the conference gets a percentage. The conference percentage is what the article refers to as being divided among all of the conference teams.
