Here's the big reason we were in close games to inferior teams and lost games we shouldn't have. I hope Trey Smith provides a lift and the coaches get the scheme, communication, and technique fixed. Our OL last year was flat out embarrassing. If not for Dobbs and Kamara, the season would have been much worse.

Have we had a decent OL since the 2012 group?

I'm still waiting for someone from the 2012 group to block someone besides Juwan James

This is what has held us back the last 2 years. The o-line was an achilles heel that exposed us. We need to improve big time along the lines of scrimmage if we want to be a championship contender.

A lot of Rivals *'s on this line. Hopefully, they will show the heart (as well as conditioning and coaching) needed to be a competent SEC line in 17.

Mother of God...that's actually not over-the-top or insane.

This has actually held us back since Butch has been here. It all comes back to coaching and Don Mahoney sucks. He has been by far the worst position coach on staff the last few years. That was one thing Dooley did a lot better then Butch. He got Sam Pittman to coach the O line who is awesome. At least there is a silver lining though. Mahoney's contract is up in a month and HE GONE!!

Yet as of now Mahoney is still here... hopefully as has been speculated Wells will replace him.

Just a shame it has taken this long for him to realize the OL has not improved during his time here.

Washouts. Most of the highly ranked OL from '13 and'14 were washouts. We do have a lot of 3 star guys still around.

I honestly don't think they are that bad at all. In that early season they were, and when they were decimated with injuries against Bama they were, but they played pretty well a lot of the times.

Yeah, we took a few steps back from the OL (with pretty much the same players) that contained Alabama on the road and dominated Northwestern in the Outback Bowl. Makes you wonder just how good our backfield was to overcome OL shortcomings?

Maybe we should hire Kentucky's OL coach or Herb Hand from Auburn.

Richmond did improve towards the end of the season, but the injuries to Chance Hall, Dylan Weisman and Jack Jones were devastating.

Also, it seemed like Robertson was banged up most of the last two seasons.

S&C Rock!

How quickly they forget. Team 119 was not bad on the OL. We actually became very productive and Kendrick out performed as LT for the season. Our OL gave the NC Bama D all it wanted that day, anybody recall going into the 4th quarter at Tuscaloosa with a lead as an example? IMO that for me is why team 120 and last season was soooooooooo disappointing in that our OL was soft and performed poorly throughout the season, a very serious regression. THAT needs fixing for 121 IMO.

That was last year. I feel like OL should be a strength this year. Everybody back, but one starter, trial by fire, for a couple a freshmen, Richmond's getting better, add EE's Locklear and especially Trey Smith, Rock at S&C coach. Now, even with Mahoney, we will be better, but I think he's gone, so top 5 OL in the SEC next year, guaranteed

Oline has been garbage for a few years. If we don't have big improvement with this crew, it will be more of the same.

DB's and LB's haven't been much better. I get injuries took a toll, but I'm not sure which group was more disappointing this year - OL, LB or DB's. All bad

I feel Bama overlooked us for 119. They eventually woke up. Our line was inconsistent in that year and had both good and bad play. It seems to me we have had a decline in line play since the Dooley crew left. We should have kept Pittman. It really hurt us that Dooley didn't recruit OL that one year. We had to restock before we could see the coaching problems.
