SEC Commish Calls Out UCF

The 4 major public schools in Fl (Fl, FSU, USF, UCF) should work together to schedule games with each other. Might mean FSU and UF don’t meet annually but I’m not sure they need to anymore. I know USF and UF have a 3 game contract (2 in Gainesville, 1 in Tampa) in the future and UCF should try and do the same.

How far in advance are the opening neutral site games scheduled? It seems like they could have gotten into one of those more quickly than usual.

I mean Houston came out of nowhere kind of in 2015 and beat FSU in the Peach Bowl. The next season they opened with #3 Oklahoma at the Texans' stadium. Did that just work out really well for them or did they get that game set up, because they beat OU and set up what would have likely been a playoff run until they stumbled against Navy.

I think that season also knocked them out of consideration to join the Big 12.

Lol. The UFC hate is beyond dumb. Why are they so hated? Because all they do is win. They’re not allowed to speak up over a broken system? All they can do is play their schedule. I don’t care whatever anyone says, they had a much claim at the Natty as a team who didnt win their conference or DIVISON (they couldn’t even win a 7 team division but they’re national champs? Yeah okay.) Fix the playoff. Give small teams a chance. It’s what makes March madness so special isn’t it? 8 teams can guarantee the best of the small teams get a crack at it.

They would have had 3-4 losses on our schedule this year.

Bet the fanbase would shut up about the “playoff talk” if they played Bama every year.

I think they’re just as good as ND, who got in without question.

I don’t know what the solution is but I think it’s insane that about half of FBS football teams are essentially not eligible to win a championship.

Florida said they tried to schedule UCF, but they backed out.

"The Gators and the Knights last played in 2006. UF won 42-0 in Gainesville.
The schools were scheduled to play again in 2007, but the Knights were released from their obligation, according to a document obtained through a public-records request. The document stated the schools instead would schedule a game at some point during the 2012-15 seasons. Handwritten notes on the document dated 2012 stated UCF associate athletics director David Hansen indicated the Knights preferred to pay UF $100,000 in lieu of scheduling a game at the Swamp."

More so than a team that isn’t the best out of a group of 7 teams. Btw UCF beat the team that won that division.
They beat an Auburn team with no Kerryon Johnson. Plus, Auburn at home that year was quite different than away from home. But if you want to play that game they beat Auburn who beat Bama, that is true. But UGA also beat Auburn and then Bama beat UGA. UCF will not get home and home games against top teams. They have to be willing to go on the road and win against an aggressive schedule to have any shot at the playoff.

Uhhh.

Leave my school and their schedule alone, thank you very much.

Not sure FSU and UF need to meet annually anymore? Where does this ridiculousness come from?

And why the hell do we have to play UCF? Why are we obligated? We get blasted for not leaving the state of Florida and now people want us to schedule more teams from the state of Florida.

I have no problem playing them for the record. But, put yourself in the AD’s shoes a second.

Why? For what purpose? What if by the time you play them, they suck? Playing UCF gives them stature and a platform and gives UF or FSU nothing. What would they gain?

We’re not Miami. We don’t go on the road to play directional schools. Directional schools come to us.

He’s 100% right

In the 80s Miami and FSU were independent made their name scheduling away games against top notch teams that’s how they became what they are

Sack up or shut up

This. Nobody owes UCF a home and home. If they want to be respected they need to go on the road to solid power 5 teams once or twice a year and prove to be competitive.

Also, **** the gators.

They play a schedule against teams that recruit at the same level that they do. If they played in the SEC, they would be able to use that to recruit at an SEC level. And they would be competing within a few years.

Really, because I distinctly remember Miami played home and home series with Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and even your gators during the 80s. At least until Florida cancelled the series because you guys were gutless.

Sigh.

The issue isn't as simple as playing ONE decent team a year. Its playing two top tier ones, three more excellent ones, plus four more solid ones. See how you hold up over 4 months of that grind.

I agree. But that would require joining a P5 conference, unless you're Notre Dame. I don't see anyone extending an invitation.

No, they wouldn't. Their facilities lag far behind all but maybe Vandy and MSU. That's around the level they'd be recruiting.

Get off the high horse.

You already scheduled USF with one game in Tampa and two in Gainesville. Your own AD had said he wants to do the same with UCF. You probably don’t want to play too many Fl schools the same year was my point. I’ve read some of your own fans so they dislike playing FSU every year.

I don’t mind now but back in the day it sucked we had FSU and most the time bama in sec title game

Helped us out 96 they played won the sec championship then we rolled into NO with a better game plan and stomped a hole in they ass

That was the best rivalry in the 90s probably them boys hated each other

We cost FSU at least 2 title appearances I promise they didn’t like that game in the 90s

97 is one I’m sure of

If I was UF or FSU athletic director, I am open to adjusting my yearly home/away series to playing slightly less often and getting USF and UCF on the schedule occasionally with a 2:1 split. UF and FSU would win the majority of those games, the home games would be sellouts which is not the case now with your OOC games, and you’d take a larger profit from ticket sales from the Orlando/Tampa games.

You obviously wouldn't be worried having Greg Sankey help the Florida AD set up a neutral site game in 2019 against UCF in Tampa then...right?

Obviously, UCF would most likely get beat against three of the four college football teams (I think UCF with a healthy Milton could definitely hang and even beat Notre Dame), but they do get kind of screwed. They are too good that no major power five team wants to play them but don't have the prestige, other sports, or location that a power five conference would expand.

Ask Oklahoma if they are happy they scheduled Houston in 2016 and played them.

No need we play FSU every year Miami about twice a decade plus we play USF UCF all them just not every it’s like Miami they rotate idk I’m how many times but pretty once each but that’s just a guess Im not sure how many times we’ve played them but we have played both within last 10 years

UCF has just risen literally the year Blake Bortles and Storm Johnson was their first really good year I believe

Now they real nice streak going and their on top on their conference

Jmo but making an already tough schedule even tougher is just dumb

Sure FSU sucks now but so did we for a long time **** runs in cycles

But for the most has been like a top 5 team they are as tough as any ooc opponents in the stack em up for 30 years I doubt they’d add up to all those top 5 finishes in a row 3 titles and 2 or 3 other appearances title games

Plus after sucking for a few years the east on the rise now ya our isn’t a moron
