SEC coaches talk UT

Linebackers need improvement, but when 2 of your top 3 go out for extended time and even your 2's get nicked up it's hard on anyone. Somehow we managed to go 4-4 after the car accident at Texas A&M pilled up the injury list.

Big way to help a young struggling defense is long extended drives, which we didn't have many of last year in the last half of the season. I believe the change in the Strength and Conditioning side of the team will be crucial in allowing us to be more successful with less injuries.

Here is to another year of Whiskey and Vol Football!

Kirkland is one of the best MLBs in the SEC.

Between Bituli, Sapp, McDowell and Austin Smith we will have the other 1-2 positions well represented too.

Not a lot of meat in this years quotes compared to years past.

I know D4H will agree with you that Kirkland is an All American, future pro bowler, and eventually NFL hall of famer. I see Kirkland as at best an average SEC Linebacker and am not trying to make him more than he actually is... what am I missing with him?

Curt Maggit, AJ Johnson, Jalen Reeves Maybin, Darrin Kirkland jr.

I wouldn't call those guys weak really. Injury prone. But not necessarily weak.

Curt Maggit was a DE and should have been there his whole time at UT. JRM was my favorite of the group. AJ was good during his tenure here but compared to other LB that have played here I'd have a hard time saying he was great. Darrin has to get healthy. Its hard to judge a kid that has been injured most of the time.

Mmm hmmm. Sure. You betcha. Nothing inconsistent at all about how you treat the anonymous SEC coach quotes.

You can keep cutting and pasting the same quotes over and over.....still won't have your point make any sense. Go ahead with round 3......

He was highly touted coming out of high school, received numerous honors his freshman year on The Hill including SEC defensive player of the week, Fox Sports had him as one of the top ten LBs in college football his freshman year as well. Granted he was hurt early last season and was out a lot, hard to get noticed not playing, but perhaps it really is just you after all?

I'm with you.

He's the best we've got, but.....
