SEC Coaches Talk Anonymously About Conference Foes for 2018 (Athlon)

I'm not making excuses for JG either. He doesn't have that internal clock that most good QBs have that tells him its time to get rid of the ball. I am however pulling for him to get a lot better really fast because he and or Chryst is about all we are going to have to choose from this year. That said we will be as good as our interior line is on both sides of the ball.

Let’s hope that if JG is indeed named the starter that through actually being taught how to block the OL will give him longer than 2 seconds before the pocket collapses. Also hope that he has matured a little bit with regards to his overall attitude & that if the play isn’t there he will simply throw it away rather than taking the sack. If he is named the starter and there is improvement in those areas then JG could be a very serviceable QB..... IMHO

I like JG but I've seen corpses with better reaction times.Kid just had no awareness,I mean oline did him no favors but if u see a truck coming at u full speed most would move out the way or at least try.

Don't worry, someone will be along shortly to tell you that his completion percentage is just below that of Tua Tagovailoa's, and that all of the sacks he ate were the fault of the o-line and Larry Scott's play-calling.
The vast majority of his sacks were because of a hortendous OL, crappy play calling, terrible coaching and WRs who couldnt even get separation from UMASS DBs. Comparing Tua to JG is absolutely laughable. Its just as bad as those who compare him to Fromm. Put Tua or Fromm in JGs situation last year and I would be willing to be that their stats come close to JGs.

"They’re losing a lot on defense; that front will be completely retooled. They still might have the best edge guy in our league with Raekwon Davis."

- Jeremy Pruitt

Of all of the quotes about Alabama, this sounds the most knowledgable and sane.

JG has the skills. The key difference is the coaching and ability to put the kid in a position to succeed, rather than forcing his skills into a set play scheme. If the OL has trouble holding, then use designed roll-outs, interior trap plays, etc. Basically, the staff will use the talent in the best way. Add, we need a defense that can help control the game by shifting field position

Go back and watch some of those sacks Guarantano took, esepecially the USCe game. Heap all the blame you want on the o-line for collapsing and not giving him time to complete the play, but JG rolling out of the pocket and getting sacked after a lateral run of 8 yards to the near sideline instead of throwing the ball away is on him.

I agree that he seems more a passer, with big caveat that he's got time to throw, but he did have a leg injury it seems for several of his starts, which surely affected his mobility. Pruitt will pick the right guy, but just hope whoever the starter is can be dynamic...or at least solid.

I will agree there were mistakes by JG. And clearly all the sacks were not on the OL. Hopefully with some real coaching, a serviceable OL, decent RB and decent WR play we can see an improved JG. I still dont see how anyone can say Chryst is better. I mean, what are they basing that on?

All the trashing of JG here on VN reminds me of the trash talk about Josh Dobbs after his freshman campaign. We had a whooooooole lot of people pointing out for most of his early career about all the things he could not do as a QB.

I don't know if Chrys is better or not. I just don't think that Guarantano has the starring position locked down they way that some on here vehemently proposing, with only last year's sub-standard performance, and a lackluster spring game as evidence.

Pruitt Will Do It said:

Stephen Hawking had better reaction time than JG did last season;)
Hmmm, is that why he has better stats than Chryst? Who btw, had a much better overall team and coaching?

You should get your facts right before you get on here and post your comments.
I know for a fact that Stephen Hawking did not have better stats than Chryst.;)
