SEC Coach of the Year?

Not answering my question, I am aware that Kirby recruited the players he has. This is about coach of the year not recruiter of the year. I would assume it is based on the coaching job you did with the available talent you have. So again would Kirby went 10-2 with the Tennessee team?
I’m going to guess no, he would not (in response to your question at the end)

Do you think Smart would have had a 10-2 record if he had been the coach at UT. If you can say yes then maybe Smart does deserve to be there, if your answer is no then you have to go with Heuple.
Yes, though not so sure if he would’ve done it in year 2. It’s possible. He is a a top tier recruiter and excellent coach. I personally would choose Heupel to win it, but I can see the reasoning behind it if Kirby does. The others, no way.

Your last sentence is flawed because if Heupel and Smart swapped places, they would have different teams. UGA would still be an elite team, just with a ridiculous loaded offense. TN would be the opposite with a loaded defense with Kirby, although probably not quite as elite as his UGA defenses because recruiting to UGA comes easier than to UT.

Just looking at the job they did this year with the tools they had available to them. No prior recruiting or anything just looking at a one year snapshot of job done with talent available.

There is more to it. It’s part of the equation. Another part is getting the talent, another part is navigating a new era of football with NIL and the portal and having your players bought in. Another is navigating success and having a team lose 15 players plus some and not have a huge decline. The navigating success and avoiding the let down is a big a check in his defense as winning with the talent available is for hype. It’s about dead even in my opinion. I can support it either way.

Georgia was ranked preseason #3 in the country. They were favored in every game they played. They were suppose to be great.

Tennessee was ranked 26th
LSU was ranked 30rh

Georgia finished 1st
Tennessee finished 7th
LSU finished 14th

Who finished more above expectations?

Tennessee

Not to mention their schedule was pretty much garbage compared to ours. We played and beat the two best teams in the West while they slept walked through most of the scrubs.

I think Hype gets SEC Coach of the Year hands down.
Kirby lost 15 to the NFL and 13 to the portal and is the only coach to not take any player from the portal. He is coach of the year hands-down, and did it on his own merits, coaching, and recruiting. He didn’t rely on anyone else but himself.

You’re delusional

I think Jimbo Fisher should be coach of the year for both the SEC and nation.

Anyone making that much money with such a sorry team should be coach of the year !

He is another Samuel Bankman-Fried...

Gomer Napier has brought much joy, so he gets my vote for second place behind Coach Hype

IMO Heupel had it in the bag until the USCjr embarrassment. Beamer then went and beat the #8 team in the nation the following week. I think Beamer gets it by a vote.

Georgia was 3rd before the season even started.

Before the games started Georgia had
91.3% chance to beat Oregon
99.9 vs Samford
90.9 vs SC
99.2 vs Kent
94.6 vs Missouri
93.2 vs Auburn
98.7 vs Vandy
93.5 vs Florida
75.5 vs Tennessee
83.9 vs Mississippi ST
93.1 vs KY
98.5 vs Georgia Tech

They had WAY more talent than anyone they faced. They were overwhelmingly predicted to win each game they played.

Tennessee was ranked 26th preseason they finished 7th that’s 19 spots better.

Tennessee had a 55% chance vs Pitt
50% vs LSU
31.5% vs Bama

Georgia did what they were supposed to do and they had the talent to do so.

Tennessee has done WAY more than they were supposed to do.

Your right. They have set quite a standard for themselves. Thanks for pointing out the high expectations and standards UGA has even AFTER losing 13 to the portal, 15 to the NFL, and TAKING ZERO in the portal. Sounds like coach of the year. Looks like everyone holds UGA to a higher standard. Kind of like they do Saban at Alabama

Look at what CJH has done with basically nothing in two years vs Kirby Smart that was giving a team of 4* & 5*s when he started at Georgia.

how is doing what’s expected with more talent = COY?

Preseason #3
Finish #1

Doing more than expected with less talent
Tennessee preseason #26
Finish #7

Even a Homer can see

just look at their win predictability

They had over a 90% chance to win every game except 2.

An 84% chance vs Miss ST
And a 75% vs Tennessee

They got Tennessee at home.

They did what they should have done. Great season…….however they have the most talent and they started #3rd.
