I was listening to some shows this week, and maybe you also have heard the SEC are considering moving the basketball and football championships.

The rumour is that SEC are looking over a new system which would be like this.

-The highest ranked team from the season before would host the games.

------------------------

Another report is that the SEC is looking at having the games played in Memphis.

I think the best idea would to keep the game in Atlanta because it's so convenient. (convention and stadium, even hotels)

Also there isn't really a home field.

----------------------------

for basketball the talk was playing it in Nashville arena, and playing games also in memphis.

i HATE that the SEC championship game is indoors in football. I know this isn't Big 10 country, but there's something about playing indoors that seems "fake." I like an open air stadium for my college football.

Somebody forgot to tell the Georgia Bulldogs this.

i know what you mean with Georgia, but I don't remember Georgia ever dominating the crowd.

Since most games are always split down the middle.

I guess you would be worried about fans buying tickets then visiting atlanta, and just rooting for the city and state they are visiting, but I doubt more than 500 of those fans do this.

also is that you in the pic with the fish?
what lake?

That's Bill Dance, man. He even says so in the sig. Hey jkell, are you Bill Dance? Guess not, Bill Dance lives in Memphis.

I'd like to move it from Atlanta some, but overall ATL is the best site, due to bad weather in December. They used to play the title game in B'ham the first 2 years---it was terrible weather both years and bama had 99% of the fans. I wouldn't mind New Orleans or Tampa every now and then.

I live in Atlanta, so obviously it's convenient to have it here -- but the Georgia Dome sucks. Nothing like going to a Falcons game on a crisp, gorgeous November afternoon....and sitting in a freaking room all day. No reason to have a dome here.

Still, I can't see it moving. If the SEC tried anything else, even experimentally, the ACC would swoop in and snatch Atlanta up in about two seconds for its championship game. And then the SEC would have ceded the media capital of the south to the inferior conference, while wandering its game around between such compelling destinations as Jacksonville, Birmingham, Nashville, and Orlando. Whee.

Weren't there talks of moving the basketball championship to Miami, which would be ridiculously stupid.

Moving the basketball tournament to the site of the highest-ranked team would be a logistical nightmare. That causes me to doubt the source. I am sure that has never been given serious consideration.

Moving the football game to the team with the better SEC record actually makes some sense, but I doubt the title game will ever stop being played at neutral sites. As for switching the neutral site - that I'll believe. It happens in basketball very often. If the football game is moved, I agree in saying "no" to Memphis. Atlanta is much more convenient than Memphis for most SEC fans.

Well if you're talking about football then I don't really think the Liberty Bowl is a really good stadium for a SEC Championship Game. Although I do really like the LB and go to Tiger when it doesn't interfere with Vol games. However, when it comes to basketball you will not find a better venue than the one we have here. The Forum, Beale St., and the River. Can't beat it!

The Titans staduim in Nashville would be good for the championship game since we know Vandy will never be in it.

It's OK...once Bobby P turns the Falcs around and the Dome is razed for the new retractable roof...the SEC game will be awesome...although being here in Indiana...I'm all for moving the game to the new Indy stadium...:)

The basketball tournament is set through at least 2012 at various sites:

2008 - March 13-16 Atlanta, Ga.
2009 - March 12-15 Tampa, Fla.
2010 - March 11-14 Nashville, Tenn.
2011 - March 10-13 Atlanta, Ga.
2012 - March 11-14 New Orleans, La.

I thought Memphis was a good site the last time they hosted the tourney in 1997.

I think the best thing to do would be having it at an OVC school. I'm thinking Tenn. Tech would be the best bet. It's centrally located, plenty of chain restaurants, new turf and let's not forget the best reason.....it's 15 minutes from me. If you believe my post was serious please step away from your computer.

Memphis wouldn't be bad. It's airport, as old school as it is, takes flights from around the south just like Atl...but you would prolly change planes in ATL.

the LB wouls be great, but they just got that new turf with the Memphis logo in the middle, would they be able to change that?

Speaking of, playing on turf is weak sauce anyways, i can't stand it, just looks so fake, even the new stuff.

Anyways, they have all the hotels and eatin places you need, but...crime is just not getting any better there

I agree, I remember that one well, plenty of hotels, Beale and the new FedEx Forum would be really nice. That and I am really close and we kinda sucked back in 97.

i'd have no problem with the basket ball tourney being played in Memphis.

the football game however, Atlanta is logical because it's Atlanta, easy to travel to, plenty else to do, hotels etc, etc......logistically, it makes the most sense.

but i hate the Ga Dome. that game shouldn't be played indoors. for that reason alone, moving it to Nashville would be ok with me.

but realistically, there's no where else in the Southeast to play it.....New Orleans maybe, but i don't want to trade a dome for a dome.

I've always liked the GA Dome actually. It can be a little sterile, but it's a comfortable place to watch a game and there's plenty to do in Atlanta.
