SEC chain crews

I've done it for a ton of high school games and a few JUCO games. There's more going on down there than most people think.

I’m in with the most people.
What am I missing?

How does the SEC pick the guys on that work the chains on the sidelines?

They're doing the obvious... tracking the spot, down and distance and generally doing what these linesman says to do. They also help with game flow by spotting flags and writing down where the ball is spotted on each play in case it has to be referenced for a review, flag etc. One of the guys also records penalties.

It's not rocket science, but between the stick men, the box guy, clip man and 1st down marker guy, there's a lot of moving parts.
