That is where they recruit the line judges, the chain gangs are randomly chosen from the first 10 to show up for the game.

This! I know a local high school official that was on the UT chain gang for years. Contrary to popular belief, they are not involved in the decision making whatsoever.

Anyone watch the Mizzou UK game? I was watching it in Columbia before our game but it didn't have sound on. What happened with the one spot when UK was on offense in the second half where they stopped play and talked about something? Seems like the refs spotted the ball 4 yards too far upfield and before it was caught, UK ran a play. I dont think the chains had even been set when UK snapped the ball. Couldn't figure out what happened without the sound.

I've done it for quite a few high school games back in the day. You have to pay attention that's for sure. You don't move until you know for sure you need to move.
