Why are the bowls not announcing their selections and waiting until Sunday? The SEC championship game has no impact on the other bowls. Is the SEC commish Slive ordering them to keep quiet? It looks like they would want to get matchups announced to start ticket sales.

Also, why is the pecking order not being followed? The Outback should be taking the 2nd place team in the East (us) instead of Auburn. I guess Slive is overlooking that one too, hmm.

I think the Georgia upset of Ga Tech, S.C. upset of Clemson, and Alabama scare to Auburn hurt us in the bowl selection. With six 7-5 teams, the bowls are just picking who they want and the SEC is allowing it.

Slive sucks! Can I say that here......

Your assumptions are correct. The Outback bowl does not want UT and Kiffin dominating the media down there. The Chicken Bowl is also concerned about Kiffin in the Georgia media. This is nothing but pure politics and Slive is turning his head while UT gets the shaft. Hamilton is trying to blame the fans for past bowl attendance when he made us sit and watch the deterioration of the program under Fulmer.

In the meantime, the UT team and fans are getting the royal shaft. Music City here we come to play in your toilet bowl.

If it's going to be nothing but popularity contests and bidding wars, then the non-BCS bowls should remove all restrictions and let everybody have at it. It's stupid to set up meaningless parameters that go ignored. Drop the pretenses and make it an equal oppportunity screw-all.

BTW, I don't know anybody who would go to the Music City bowl.

They just released the bowls on CFL and had us in the ChikFila Peach bowl, and they even mentioned our matchup being VT.

i dont think the chik fla bowl committee cares one bit about kiffin and the vols being in the media in gerogia or what slive thinks, if they could make a vt ut matchup this would probably be their quickest sellout ever. its all about money

Reportedly, the SEC is requiring that the official bids wait until Sunday. Reportedly this may be due to the Chick-fil-A Bowl (and perhaps the Music City Bowl) awaiting the outcome of the ACC CG to make its selections.

The bowl selection pecking order is being followed. The bowls are required to take the team among the remaining teams with the best overall W-L record or a team within one game of that record. So the bowls have some flexibility there. And since there are all of these teams with 7-5 records it's pretty much wide open.

Generally speaking, the bowls try to do their best to pick a matchup of two teams that they feel will draw the most fans (sell tickets) and get the highest TV ratings.

Not strictly true. The Outback traditionally picks the best available from the East and the Cotton the best available from the West. The Outback has started a clusterf*$! by picking the 4th team in the West over the 2nd in the East, and the SEC is trying to contain it.

If we get the Peach Bowl I'll be glad we aren't playing in the Outback. Playing VT on prime-time is a better gig than Wisconsin or Northwestern at 11 am.

the only reason they havent announced vt an ut in the chik fla bowl officially is because the hokies are 12th in the bcs and the top 14 teams belong to the bcs until all of their bowls have selected.

there are pecking order guidelines but those can be trumped by prospective ticket sales. We could not guarantee the number of tickets Auburn could

I was under the impression an SEC university isn't supposed to guarantee tickets sold.

Why do the bowls care about Kiffin being in the local media?

another misunderstanding. can't do official but there are back room discussions between AD's and schools. Bowls are about amking money for hotels and restaurants. that is who bowls have to satisfy

The Outback traditionally does take a team from the East, but is not required to do so. Given the state of the economy, I figured the Outback might select UGA. The state of Georgia is closer for fans to travel by car, direct flights from ATL to Tampa are pretty cheap and UGA fans typically travel en mass to UGA games in Florida. I think the disappointment in the season results among the UGA fanbase, talk of impending coaching staff firings, etc. may have worried the Outback a bit that UGA fans might not travel so well this year all the way down to Tampa to see UGA play Wisconsin or Northwestern. Apparently the Outback felt they'd get better results by going with Auburn rather than Tennessee.

Which to me makes a UGA/Clemson matchup in the CFA unlikely.

So why can Auburn supposedly guarantee 30,000 tickets, but we can't?

I feel pretty certain Auburn recruits FL as well. In addition they have had much more success against UF in recent years than UT.

They do not have Lane Kiffin and he has stated that he is going to take the best players in Florida. UF does not consider Auburn a divisional threat and they do not play them every year like in the past.

I thought he said that he was going after the state of GA.

I learned a long time ago:

"Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by stupidity/money/self interest"

Some of the reasons being thrown out in this thread sound kind of paranoid to me. IMO the bowls want the best TV Ratings/Gate Receipts/Local Economic Impact they can get, and will do whatever they can to get them.

The Chic-Fil-A Bowl is a great bowl. I saw us play Clemson & Maryland, and though the games were AWFUL, the bowl & setup were excellent.

GO VOLS - BEAT VA TECH ! !
