SEC Bowl projections

This season I would say everyone has a shot to win. I would think Florida would win that one. However I thought LSU would beat arkansas , Michigan would beat appy state, the list goes on and on. So this year I would definatley not discount Ilinois

Ohio State Did.:)

Why does a four loss team have the right to bitch about their bowl slot? If you don't want to end up in a mediocre bowl, don't get hammered by mediocre teams like Cal and Alabama.

They would have a right to bitch if another 4-loss team took a spot. If UT gets to the Chik-fil-A, it means that 8-4 Auburn and 8-4 Arkansas take a New Year's bowl. Hell, Arkansas is only 4-4 in the conference! Both of those teams would have 4 losses without having to play in the title game and were not division champs. I think Tennessee would have a right to be upset....

I agree.. Not only would we have the same record as arkansas but we beat them. The only thing they have going for them right now is they beat LSU. Hopefully we can beat LSU and then it wont matter.

Most years I would be silently nodding in agreement with you on this, hat. But in the SEC this year every team has lost to at least one mediocre team somewhere along the way.

As to the original post on that, complaining that UT might be passed over for a 1/1 game by teams that did not win the SECE, I understand your point but the reality is that the system usually rewards a conference championship game winner and penalizes the loser. For the Vols to go to a BCS game, they are going to have to earn it in 60 minutes, just like LSU has to.

In no way am I suggesting that the Vols deserve a BCS bowl if they lose on Saturday - because they dont. However, I am suggesting that a 9-4 eastern division champion deserves a 1/1 bowl over an 8-4 second-place Auburn and an 8-4 third-place Arkansas.

Yeah, all those people attending are why most of the lower tier bowls are bleeding money and lucky to reach 75% capacity for their games.

It's just money we would spend on something else for entertainment, so I'll spend it and enjoy whatever bowl we are in. never had a bad New years yet, even when we got beat, it was still with Vol fans and that is worth a lot to me.

You totally misunderstood what was meant by that. He's saying that those other minor bowls don't make money and don't get a large attendence, and thus aren't profitable anyway. It has nothing to do with whether you have a good time or not, or personally spent a good bit of money.

There is something not quite fair about that. Not to add fuel to your point, but the situaiton we are discussing also puts Florida, who finished third in the SEC, in a 1/1 bowl here in Orlando. So that would put UT, which won the SECE, behind Auburn, Arkansas, and Florida -- teams that they were ahead of in the standings when the regular season ended.

If you beat LSU, its a moot point, though as I say it could mean that I have a couple of tickets to sell to the Cap One bowl.

You gotta love how a team gets penalized for losing the confererence CHAMPIONSHIP game. You are basically the #2 team in the conference, yet will drop to the #6 bowl slot. Ludicrous.

You mean like all those years Tennessee didn't make the SEC Championship game, yet got the Citrus Bowl bid ahead of the West champ?

Its the trade-off for an automatic bid to the BCS.

The winner goes to a bowl worth about $12 million.

The loser of the game goes upside down to the tune of about $1 million in travel costs so its players can go to a theme park and eat leathery chicken at an awards banquet at the Holiday Inn, right before the Finklestein wedding.

I don't know if this has been posted or not but if both West Virginia and Missouri were to lose this weekend could UGA back door their way into the NC game without winning their own conference?

Georgia would need losses by Missouri, WVU, and LSU. You gotta think that pollsters would put conference champions above runners-up with equal (worse) records.

We'll take care of part III though =)
