SEC, ACC, Big 12 potential schedules

In summary, the writer says the 3 conferences are strongly considering playing conf games as scheduled with one OCC game added. Since SEC only play 8 conf. games they may go with that or play 9 and add one OCC game. Said the BIG 12 would like to keep its 2 high profile OCC games: TN/OK and Ole Miss/Baylor. If SEC goes to 9 conf games, would TN-Ole Miss want to keep these games as their OCC game. Would make for a very tough schedule or go with the easier mid-major?

This is the first scenario I have seen so far that makes sense if an abbreviated schedule is how CFB goes.

I would think TN wants to keep OU on the schedule if at all possible. Only scenario where playing them ends in a "loss" for us is if we get completely and totally blown off the field. Too much recruiting and national exposure at stake for a nicely rebuilding program.

Also, it shows everyone we aren't afraid of anyone.

We’ve never been afraid to play anyone but for the last 15 years those games have mostly been losses. There’s nothing special about losing to all of the traditional and nuevo powerhouse programs you face. We need to actually win one of these games.

I also think ESPN pushes to keep this game along with any other prominent inter-conference games on other teams' schedule. They need games that will have more than a regional interest.

I would love to see us keep the Oklahoma game but one thing to consider is that it’s a road game. With all the Coronavirus concerns they may opt for an OOC home game to limit travel.

Doug Mathews and Tony Barnfart were talking on his show the other day about all this. Sounds like a real possibility and very likely. There is one thing that's certain, we're going to be dropping 2 games from the schedue at least. Possibly 3, but it looks like we will get 10 games in. Keep OU and either play one more conference foe or maybe someone from the ACC. But all the cupcake games will be gone.

You do know that if they opt out for a OOC home game the other team will have to travel to Knoxville? Same thing just different team. Keep the OU game

The decision on who to keep needs to be decided by the SEC not individual schools.

We can't have one school choosing to keep FCS opponents while the other plays Oklahoma.

Keep the strongest (or at least a stronger P5 opponent)

If they go the conference +1 route (which seems less likely to me than conference +2 given the increased opportunity for revenue, but I haven't put the 39 teams and tried to match things up), there's no way that the OOC game is coming from anywhere outside of the ACC (plus ND) or the Big XII.

Edit: It turns out that, if you allow Mizzou to retain BYU as its OOC game, there are exactly fourteen teams between the ACC/Big XII/SEC that lack a premier OOC game as it stands presently. The breakdown works perfectly in that each of those fourteen teams could pair off with an OOC foe from one of the other two conferences, so maybe this is why conference + 1 is gaining so much momentum.

Charlotte and Furman are relatively close to Knoxville so if a game had to be scrapped, Troy would be further away. One of many factors to consider.

Maybe we could do a quickie scheduling with Tennessee Tech, Chattanooga and/or ETSU!

Hard to win these games when you don’t play them. If we beat Oklahoma this year then we have officially guaranteed top 5 recruiting class.

I'm gonna put money on the Vols in that game, because I think that's going to surprise everyone, which includes the Vegas oddsmakers

So the Ole Miss/Baylor is the 2nd high profile game? Not the Texas/LSU game??
