Season's Prediction

I can agree with that. But if 9-4 is good enough, then it is unfortunate.
9-4 is nothing to get excited about...but where do you draw the line?

that's where this little debate loses me.....9-4 in a given year is one thing, it's the trend that bothers me, and i have no problem in critisizing performance if it's consistently average or worse.....

but to come out and say it is, in fact, unfortunate because that means he keeps his job is just ridiculous.

Let me say this: 9-4 isn't a bad season in certain situations. For example, in this example, it's fine:

13-0, 10-3, 10-3, 11-2, 9-4

But, this, is not good:

10-3, 10-3, 5-6, 9-4, 9-4

Yep . . . It's all about context. 9-4 in a rebuilding year is one thing. 9-4 with a senior QB would be disappointing. In fact, 9-4 would be the worst record we've had with a senior QB since the days of Jeff Francis 20 years ago.

I completely agree.

Really? wow.

well, i guess there are some things we can all agree about. whoda thunk it?:)

Great find, thanks!

I was a freshman in 88 when it seemed like it rained every home game and everybody and their brother whipped us....I would have taken 9-4 that year.

i will predict 14-0, but if i were betting on it i would say 11-1 regular season. who knows after that

that's fine, i don't see us winning the SEC either.

i just can't stand it iwhen it's presented that it woudl be a shame to do something good BECAUSE that would mean CPF gets to keep his job...just ridiculous.

i'm not all that thrilled with him either, but i'm not going to wish bad things on the team just to get that change.

Maybe it's just me, but.....

- for 2 million a year, I expect to see a head coach, any head coach, put a quality team on the field. "Quality" being defined, at least, as a well-coached, hard-charging team.

- If I have ever said, or intimated, that I "wished" the Vols would "lose the appropriate number of games to spark a change at head coach", then I'll apologize for that right here and now. Never intended.

- I am, as I have said time and again, a die-hard Vol fan. I am not, however, a Phil Fulmer fan. I believe he is a great role model, a good man, a great recruiter, a good head coach, and has earned a place in the UT Hall of Fame.

- But...I think he is too nice of a guy, especially when it comes to running a major college football program. Too nice with his coaches, too nice with his players, and too nice with a 10 point lead.

- I think his best days are behind him. Granted, he set the bar pretty high with that overachieving, national championship team of '98. Still, you need only look at his record against top 10 teams since, and the bowl record that goes with it, to see the pattern begin to emerge. Add in the fact that our home field advantage has withered away during the same span, and the picture becomes clearer. UT has lost their edge, and whether you believe it or not, the ultimate responsibility for that rests squarely on Phil Fulmer's desk.

- If memory serves, Mike Hamilton referenced "playing for a national championship every ten years, and winning the SEC every four". Did I get that right? If so, I'm okay with that. No need to be greedy. Yes, it's a tough standard. But who among us doesn't believe in their heart that we've let one or two shots at the BCS title, and at least that many SEC championships slip away over the last 8 seasons?

- Like I said, maybe it's just me. But when I see my beloved Vols just get out-played, and out-toughed, by the likes of Air Force, or Penn State, it bothers me. A lot.

- In theory, we've got top-notch talent, and a top-notch head coach. So where's our top-notch team?

- I'm not "wishing" for a 9-4 season. I just happen to think that's where we're headed. And I believe the head coach should stand accountable for the performance of his, or her, team.

- Go Vols.

well that's fine. i dont have a problem criticisizing performance. i just have a real problem when it is presneted to me in a fashion that suggests that it would be better to lose so we could get rid of him.

I'm okay with that. If you read it that way, then I must have "wrote it wrong".

Nothing would please me more than a 14-0 season, and another crystal football.

Much easier for me to buy O2 a six-pack than to find a new head coach. Including shipping.

I'll stick with 9-4, and I honestly hope Phil makes me eat those words.

Go Vols.

well, i think 9-3 in the reg season is about right...i'll refrain from picking overall record because you never know who the bowl game will be.....

and again it's not that 9-3 is bad, it's that 9-3 consistently is bad, or that there's no sign of improvement to get us back to SEC title worthy, and not runner up in the East year in and year out.

Right there with ya.

Go Vols.

(you too, Phil.....dammit)

I just pray that Phil earns his multi-million dollar contract and we win the SEC, that being said, I'll believe it when I see it. I honestly dont think he can do it. We are so bland in everything we do, we're still running Walt Harris' offense for pete's sake. Innovative is not a word you would usually associate with the Vol Football program on either side of the ball.

Amen.

now see, that is just not true.

jake, honestly, and be honest now, is "cutting edge offense" something you would ever, EVER, associate with Tennessee?
lol our offense is run up the middle, then run up the middle again, than pass on a 3rd an 8. Fulmer has been so predictable.
