that's fine, i don't see us winning the SEC either.
i just can't stand it iwhen it's presented that it woudl be a shame to do something good BECAUSE that would mean CPF gets to keep his job...just ridiculous.
i'm not all that thrilled with him either, but i'm not going to wish bad things on the team just to get that change.
Maybe it's just me, but.....
- for 2 million a year, I expect to see a head coach, any head coach, put a quality team on the field. "Quality" being defined, at least, as a well-coached, hard-charging team.
- If I have ever said, or intimated, that I "wished" the Vols would "lose the appropriate number of games to spark a change at head coach", then I'll apologize for that right here and now. Never intended.
- I am, as I have said time and again, a die-hard Vol fan. I am not, however, a Phil Fulmer fan. I believe he is a great role model, a good man, a great recruiter, a good head coach, and has earned a place in the UT Hall of Fame.
- But...I think he is too nice of a guy, especially when it comes to running a major college football program. Too nice with his coaches, too nice with his players, and too nice with a 10 point lead.
- I think his best days are behind him. Granted, he set the bar pretty high with that overachieving, national championship team of '98. Still, you need only look at his record against top 10 teams since, and the bowl record that goes with it, to see the pattern begin to emerge. Add in the fact that our home field advantage has withered away during the same span, and the picture becomes clearer. UT has lost their edge, and whether you believe it or not, the ultimate responsibility for that rests squarely on Phil Fulmer's desk.
- If memory serves, Mike Hamilton referenced "playing for a national championship every ten years, and winning the SEC every four". Did I get that right? If so, I'm okay with that. No need to be greedy. Yes, it's a tough standard. But who among us doesn't believe in their heart that we've let one or two shots at the BCS title, and at least that many SEC championships slip away over the last 8 seasons?
- Like I said, maybe it's just me. But when I see my beloved Vols just get out-played, and out-toughed, by the likes of Air Force, or Penn State, it bothers me. A lot.
- In theory, we've got top-notch talent, and a top-notch head coach. So where's our top-notch team?
- I'm not "wishing" for a 9-4 season. I just happen to think that's where we're headed. And I believe the head coach should stand accountable for the performance of his, or her, team.
- Go Vols.
