Darren McFadden will score 3 TD's by himself :ermm:

"Demetrice Morley... 1st Team All-SEC"

He doesn't even start, but he will make 1st team all-sec? His junior year I think that will definately be a possibility. But, unless there is an injury he will not be a starter this next year.

And, McFadden by himself is not going to score 3 TD's against our defense. Especially not at that point in the season. By that point in the season our defense will be experienced. We will stack the box and dare them to throw (which they won't be able to do) and we will stuff the run. You are overestimating their OL and other skill position players.

Rick... I absolutely agree with everything you said. Morley will hopefully eventually come along and be a star. And I really agree that McFadden will NOT score 3 TDs by himself. If he does... Tennessee's defense will be in for a loooong season.

I didn't really mean that about McFadden. I'm just saying that he's very good and talented and we'll have to play one of our best games on the defensive side to contain him. I still think he'll rush for right at 100 yards and add 2 TD's with it because even with a horrible O-line, he's still awesome

i wouldnt call 8-4 disappointing. Disappointing says that you thought it would be something great. Anything over 7 wins is a good season for us next year.

i tend to disagree. its been a trend for vol fans to consider any season with 9 wins or less dissapointing, and i, for the most part agree. 9 wins i can stand but going 8-5 or 8-4 burns me up for some reason. i would consider both 2000 and 2002 dissapointing years as well as the forgetable 2005 season. lets dont become a university that expects anything less than 9-10 wins every year. it seems every year ut fans expect double digits in the win column and thats how it should be IMO.

For performance standards, if you do consider yourself a top-level football program, you should expect nothing less than 10-win seasons and conference title contention every season. It's not realistic but that's what the fanbase of major programs should expect their schools to be doing.

So early, there is no telling who some our starters will be at this point. I'll have to reserve the right to "re-evaluate" this later, but for now:

California-31 Tennessee-34
Air Force-17 Tennessee-45
Florida-23 Tennessee-24
Marshall-13 Tennessee-48
Memphis-16 Tennessee-31
Georgia-27 Tennessee-28
Alabama-9 Tennessee-35
South Carolina-17 Tennessee-27
LSU-?? Tennessee-?? (score unknown but UT will win by 3 in OT)
Arkansas-24 Tennessee-30
Vanderbilt-13 Tennessee-55
Kentucky-16 Tennessee-37

I don't really exepct UT to go undefeated but this is my best homerish guess on a game-by-game basis.

Okay, my first re-evaluation is due. I am getting some bad vibes about the season. Maybe it's just nerves. I hope so. Anyhow, my optimism, like E, has left the building and I'm ready to face reality. Other than Sears I do not think out OL is going to be worth a flip by SEC standards, which also means you shouldn't expect much from the running game despite what will surely be a noble effort by our backfield. I doubt EA will start the entire season and I have no real reason to think the receivers will be much better than last year, so count out the passing game. Basically, our offense is going to suck about as bad as 2005. On defense I know we have maturity on pass coverage but older doesn't always mean better. I still think teams like Cal and LSU (maybe even UF if UM allows Leak to drop back more) will torch us on deep outs. The D line will be okay but the LB corps could be trouble. Basically we should be able to stuff the run put teams that can throw and catch will own us.

California 42-17 LOSS
Air Force 23-17 WIN
Florida 27-13 LOSS
Marshall 31-13 WIN
Memphis 17-13 WIN
Georgia 28-14 LOSS
Alabama 10-6 WIN
South Carolina 18-17 WIN
LSU 37-10 LOSS
Arkansas 24-13 LOSS
Vanderbilt 20-17 WIN
Kentucky 28-6 WIN

Season prediction 7-5 but we could easily drop games to SC and/or Bama and wind up 5-7 or 6-6. If we have a winning record I'm calling UT vs. Kansas in the Independence Bowl. Tie record probably puts us in the EV1.net Bowl against Missouri. Like I said, I HOPE TO HE!! THAT I AM WRONG ON THIS but I am listening to my gut, which rarely leads me astray.

i will say though, my expectations have gone more to the pessimistic side as well....originally i thought 9-3...

now i could see us losing to Cal....

Cal--L
AF--W
UF--L
Mar--W
Mem--W
UGA--W
Bama--W
USC--W
LSU--L
ARK--L
KY--W
Vandy--W
8-4.

i think Bama's and UGA's qb question marks will be tough to overcome....

I wonder if at a subliminal level I'm rationalizing that since I expected a lot last year and we blew it that if I expect very little this year we will be good again?

i think a lot of people are hedging their bets hoping for just that...

expect little, and be suprised is much better than expect a lot and be suprised.

I am definitely calling Cal a loss. I have too much respect for the upper echelon of the Pac10 right now to dismiss them based on their conference. Everything I read about them just makes me think they will be a juggernaught this year and I honestly see no way we beat them unless it is blind luck. UF has some questions to answer and we might have a chance agaisnt them, but if Meyer just lets Leak play I think they can outscore us no problem. LSU is another juggernaught and they are going to pound us mercilessly if they get the chance. I am calling the loss to Arkanasas becasue (1) everyone is picking them as the dark horse in the West whcih is really not much of a reason and (2) they rarely lose at home. If we go into Fayetteville matched evenly with the Hogs, I have to think their legitimate home field advantage will put them over the top.

i mean for all intents and purposes, there is absolutely no reason to expect more than 7-8 wins this season....at least based on last year and the personnel we have coming back.

are we capable of more? yeah, i'd like to think so, and i did a month ago, but as we closer to opening day, i feel myself growing more anxious than excited....

Seeing as we still haven't played a down of the new season, and nobody has since become injured or jailed....I'll stand pat on this hand.
Well, one change, I've swapped LSU for Aubie in the championship game.
Come on 'Billy! Perk up! It's almost the greatest time of the year!!!

I believe the offensive line will come around by September. Assuming that happens, and given our home schedule, the season looks very bright from underneath my "T" ballcap....

Sept. 2 California.. Fly to Knoxville and beat our defense. Nope. 28-17

Sept. 9 Air Force.. Again, our Defense. They never get off the ground. 34-6

Sept. 16 Florida.. Better early games than usual make us better prepared. Urban's "They folded up there" comment makes the fans better prepared.
But, as always, its about running game in this one and ours will prevail. 30-23

Sept. 23 Marshall..score, whatever we have at halftime plus 10 more from the 2nd 3rd string in the second half.

Sept. 30 at Memphis.. We play crappy. Always seems we do over there. Still, it's Memphis for cripes sake. 24-6

Oct. 7 at Georgia.. Enough Foster/Hardesty to wind up with a "W". 24-21

Oct. 21 Alabama.. My favorite game always. A war. We win. Barely. 17-13

Oct. 28 at South Carolina.. Trick or treat! A banged up D-line can't get to the QB. Everything's going wrong. Ainge makes a real name for himself with a game winning drive. 31-27

Nov. 4 LSU.. Loss number one.

Nov. 11 at Arkansas.. The Hogs really hate us. We seem to play poorly against their physical BS for some reason. Loss number two.

Nov. 18 at Vanderbilt.. You lose. Now shut the heck up! 35-10

Nov. 25 Kentucky.. Fundamental football from the reserves. The starters are resting for..
Dec. 2 SEC Championship.. Tennessee vs. <strike>Auburn</strike>LSU

i agree with everything you said except about LSU...i think that game is one that we might have a legit shot at....i don't trust Miles, and they are replacing a lot on D...plus if they have a qb contraversy, that plays in to all of their opponents hands....

i think ARK will be tough no matter what...they are tough at home.
