Well the 2008 football season is over Volnation, officially. Let us take a second and just say thank god :) This has been a roller coaster ride that's for sure. We had to let go of our coach who is a Tennessee icon and replace him with a young up and comer. Good or bad? Well we shall see. I, personally, am damn excited for next season.

Anyway, I am writing this because this was my rookie year here at the nation and it's been fun reading the posts and debating with some. Thanks to freak and the mods for your work and all those who keep the info flowing. It is greatly appreciated. Let's close the books on 2008 ( as far as football) and let 2009 be the beginning to a return to glory.

Let's cheer the Basketvols as they roll in SEC play and on to the big dance. As always,

GO VOLS!!!

Nice post...I really don't think football season ever ends in Tennessee though. It is Tennessee!

Go vols!!

No doubt we should all tip our caps to freak and the crew. I wasn't arouhnnd much this football season, but I was still watching and excited to see what improvements can be made for next year. Six wins should be easy with that schedule, now let's see what our coaches can do beyond that. Go vols!

I think the '05 season was worse than this one just because the expectations were a lot higher than as we started the season at #3.

Now that the season is finally over, when will we hear what coaches are joining Kiffin that are in the college ranks?

For me, the season ended Nov 29th.

I have been enjoying this new season since December 1st!!! I expect we won't hear all the new coaching staff info until sometime right after the first of the year. I'm satisfied enough at this point that I can wait til then without it killing me.

I can't wait to see how the team differs. I want to them to be physical and have some swagger.

You must have been born after 1988.

Not at all...born in the middle 60's. The only other dismal season is when we started 0-5. Then won our last 5 or 6in a row. 2005 was bad ...but not near as bad as this year. OUR OFFENSE SUCKED THIS YEAR! NEAR THE BOTTOM IN EVERY CATEGORY!
I guarantee you will not find a worse VOL team in the past 40 years!

The 1988 team was the one you're referring to. They started out 0-6 and then won their last five in a row. After the fifth loss, Johnny threw his DC under the bus to save his own butt. We played well against Bama but lost 28-20 to fall to 0-6. Next up was Tiger High, which was weak enough that we won and everybody got their confidence back. And beat four more bad teams to end the season.

That season was still the pits; I'd rather have two years like this one than have another like '88. This year's team got blown out by two national title contenders; that one was killed by teams with three and four losses. Plus they lost to Duke.
