SDS "Brick by brick"

I guess SDS didn't get the memo that Butch is in hot water with VolNation for not hiring an OC of their liking no matter how great a job he might be doing.

Just more of that shameless 'spin' I keep seeing folks post about. :)

I don't think CBJ should be viewed as a grand marketeer with the ability to sell ice to Eskimos.

I think the school and the facilities are a great product that can stand on their own merit. Add the buzz and success that Coach and staff have introduced in the past two years and it should be enough to have Tennessee as a possibility for most high school players.

CBJ accentuates the positives, courts the high school coaches and has a certain sincerity that makes families feel like their boy will be treated as more than a commodity. All good things that CBJ masterfully utilizes for recruiting success.

But it ain't like he is selling s4!t as caviar.

Why is this even framed as a question? Everyone knows that he is; this should be an emphatic statement.

BUTCH JONES IS THE BEST PROGRAM SELLER!

“You’re either a fountain, or a drain,” Jones says in reference to what he calls energy vampires. “We want fountains.”

Is this why we have seen so many players leaving the program? Maybe they were drains and Butch pulled the preverbal plug.

Once an old guy (he was 65 and I was 40 at the time) said, "you can't sell from an empty wagon". I think Butch knows this better than anyone and knows everything about the University of Tennessee is top shelf -- historic football power, athletic facilities, curriculum, the Thornton Center, member of the most high profile football conference, NFL connections with huge number of former players in the League and with many of those coming back to the program from time to time, VFL program, fanatical fans. He has a wagon full of things to sell. But his is not selling ice to Eskimos but just the opposite. In his high energy way, he is educating and accentuating the positives along with his vision for the future so that it becomes apparent to those he is speaking to that Tennessee is THE place to be and will be a force to reckon with soon and for a long time to come.

The facilities etc only took Dooley so far. CBJ is light years ahead with his personal style and relentlessness. Hope for great things from him

Maybe?

I wonder if losing some of these young promising players could be due to the massive sales hype leading said player to NSD. Once the LOI is dry, no staff or HC on earth has enough time and energy to continue such a level of interest and family. The player who is now on campus going to English 101 with 200 other students realizes that the "romance" is over and this is work. Maybe they get a little disillusioned and realize they made an emotional decision rather than a more circumspect one.

Does the fact that the HC wears a bow tie for you REALLY matter over the course of the next 3-4 years? It's not wrong. But I think Butch is good at relating to the emotions of a 16-18y/o high school players. Unfortunately, when the sweat and discipline come due, then maybe some of these young men are asking the "why" questions.

It may be similar to the common problem with dating and marriage. Men & Women often put on their best act while dating. One they "fall in love" because of how "awesome" their partner is, the decide to make it a lifetime. Then at some point and time the REAL person is revealed in the midst of dirty laundry, screaming kids, and electric bills and taxes. Suddenly people start asking the "why" questions.

This is just a complete theory that I have based on too many good prospects transferring. All based on reading the news and hearing rumors around here. Not actual info from the sources. The fact that dead weight is leaving is a good and expected thing IMO.

CBJ has been working hard to get a job like UT. Could you imagine how he must have felt when walking into the football complex. It must have been like a 5 yr old at Christmas !!

Don't forget that half of Volnation is not sold on Butch's coaching ability. Most are taking a wait and see approach...SMH

Those things did not help Dooley very much.
