Scrimmage...

Looks like Daniel Lincoln might be the regular kicker with Colquitt coming in for the longer ones and maybe kickoffS

according to govolsxtra columns about it, it pretty much went as they expected....

points that i thought were worth noting:
they ran the no huddle with no problems. had to call 0 timeouts....that can't be a bad thing....plays are getting in, they're getting called and they're getting run........we all know how important tempo is to cut, that was probably a bigger deal than we may think.

the running game produced 150+ yards...Coker had 60 before being taken out with a minor rib injury, foster had 98 and a walk on Sr i can't remember the name had i belive 50...Everyone agrees that a major reason why was the O line finaly started looking like they were blocking...and that's w/out Mcneil, Young and Parker i think........none of them played yesterday. but day one reviews of the O line were positive as were the RB's.

antonio gaines had a pick 6 off of ainge, but by all accounts, the defense wasn't really that great.

the only real negative i could take from the articles were the WR's.....no one really stepped up, a couple had "flashes" but largely inconsistent with a lot of work to do accorinding to Taylor and CPF.

there was also a good article about the TE's this season...you'll see TE's lined up traditionally, in the slot, at FB....all over the feild.........should be interesting.

all in all though, after reading about it, nothing shocking, a little surprised to hear the O line did well....and the defense and WR are probalby going to be the biggest areas that need attention.

Scout.com: 'D scores two TDs in scrimmage good to see Daniel Lincoln hit 5 of 6

good link thanks.

These stats make no sense:

Foster 19 carries 98 yds
Coker 8 carries 60 yds

Ainge 9 of 26 90 yds 1 int
Crompton 16 of 24 106 yds 1 fumble

Granted there were 45 mph winds, Fulmer blamed the wind and the receivers for Ainge's bad numbers.

Not a good first look at the receivers in scrimmage apparently.

I read in the Chattanooga paper this morning that Fulmer told the WR's that if they don't step up we will have 3 TE's on the field, and Slick Shelley looked better than the rest of them. Gerald Jones, Vinson, and O'Neal can't get on the hill fast enough.

Colquit maybe kickoffs but I think if Lincoln can be consistent then he will do all field goals. 5 of 6 is good. Especially in brutal wind.

No...That's what we are worrying about. :shakehead:

These scrimmages are hard to take... it's encouraging that the running game looks good or was able to produce... but is that because the blocking is better or because of who they were blocking?

If 3 TE can catch the ball better I'm for it.

I think a 2 TE set needs a look by Fulmer and Cutcliffe. I'm normally not a fan of that set, but that group has the best returning players.

Andre Mathis and an OL, #71 got into it with a DL, (it looked like a 3 stooges fight) he just put his hand on the head of the guy and held him back it was kind of funny

if you believe the coaches...they say both.

they were actually complimentary of the O line play despite having several key guys not participating. said the technique was better, they were finishing blocks and that their backs stayed flat....presumably meaning they weren't getting knocked backwards, or stood up when engaged.

and they were complimentary of Foster particularly when coker went out. i still think reading between the lines, coker is the guy...but they really like the over all position they are in from a RB standpoint...overall depth and talent.

go try to throw the ball early in the practice season with high winds to receivers who have never shown the ability to catch with any consistency, then talk

I agree...I had a hard time opening the door to the building and walking to my car yesterday. There were some mad gusts.

It means keeping a good blocking posture- butt down, knees flexed, back flat, head up, and weight balanced over your base.

Sounds good to me.
