A guy named Jason Witten was once moved from DE to TE while at the University of Tennessee.....

He did ok..

If you say so, I'm still not sure that was the best move. (Blue font intended).

Yes, because we know one ignorant reporter nearly brought down the program by jumping the gun on an injury report (blue font)

It wasn't "one ignorant reporter" it was the stupid menstruating masses responding to "one ignorant reporter". Saban or Urban does this and nobody bats an eye. Butch does it and he's overreacting. You want everything else out of him...this is part of the package.

When you choose the life of an athlete or public figure, and lets be honest here, Butch (or the head coach period) is probably the most recognizable person in the state, and many players are up there as well, then you have to understand that there will be drawbacks.

You don't get to be a celebrity and make millions or have huge influence and not have a few drawbacks. The amount of influence these players have on campus, even just walk ons who will never see the field, is insane. As someone who played sports in college and semi professionally, if the worst thing said about you is you might be injured? Then you had a great week.

We can say "these are kids and in college" all we want, but they are only in college because the NFL doesn't have any other feeder system other than college. If there was a semi pro football league that the NFL constantly drafted from that required no college classes and paid players the vast majority would do that, and should do that, because the idea of "Amateurism" that the NCAA has come up with is hilariously hypocritical and we all know this.

Butch has a right to be mad about misinformation. But instead of being pissy about it he should say "Why was this said and who said it?" If someone in his camp gave out the information, reprimand them. If someone in the media just made it up maliciously? Ban them from coming.

These are grown adults with jobs and it is rare for someone to be malicious with information intentionally (at least not in sports at this level. Politics sure.) You don't punish a group of people who help protect your image because one of them made something up, or even more dangerously, because someone from your side said something or leaked something that wasn't true or wasn't clear.

Concept of MASS PUNISHMENT...not necessarily fair, but effective. And absolutely under the head coach's purview.

I thought he was very open to the move and was embracing it. I hope he sticks with it. He seems like he could be a good player at some point, just needs more true football experience. Hoping they can convince him to stay.

Starting to look like a man without a position. Was lost in tall weeds last season at LB. Better talent on the team at DE. Unless he has great hands to be a TE, then he should probably move on to a program where he can play DE if he desires meaningful playing time. Else, bid your time at UT and hopefully find the field as a RS junior / senior.

If Butch starts winning multiple NCs like Meyer and Saban, I will willingly police internet rumors for him. Until then, let's try and not get outcoached by the Muschamps of the world.

You don't have to police anything...you don't have to DO ANYTHING. And neither does Butch. :)

Why do fans feel they have some sort of right to information about the team? I've never understood this. I'm almost positive that tax dollars do not support the football program so that argument is out the window. You are not forced to buy tickets so holding them gives you no right to info. If a coach wants closed practice and a tight ship, so be it.

Now, that makes two of us but I don't think our bus will be very full

I don't care...cheering from the rafters. :clapping: We've seen enough of our coach to know that he embraces fans and the media. He'll open everything back up, but he's making it understood what he's willing to do. Up to responsible media to "police" their interns...for the greater good. :wink2:

He is creating the program like no other! Somewhat of a No name coach we or Jimmy H brought in that has the program & expectations turning around/finally got it right! Butch continues to be intuitive and exploratory (I need some sleep glasses/A monitor under players bed -really-no comment lol) Another open practice/ WR with punting ability? Come and see? He is brilliant on creating the buy in - Recent recruits from TN / especially middle TN impact players-should be a huge selling piece for future prospects. If I know Jimmy H after working for him several years, I guess once he takes us to the promise land(Nat. Cham) he will hire him for the Browns to save his A--! Just saying!:D

Jakob Johnson wanting to quit. Mad he got moved to TE. Staff trying to convince him to stay. He never really fit anywhere on the team it seems.

Sounds like a mole hunt to me. And if Butch closes down the rest of pre-season practice to the media, more power to him. Last distraction the team needs is some jughead throwing out bogus reports just trying to be the first to report it.

And if that means getting a bunch of tarps to put around the fence, I would come up and help sealed off the view from the street.

It appears that Butch Jones little speech from Thursday about speculating on things that could impact a player or his family, fell on deaf ears.

It appears that the same twitter person who started all the rumors about Von Pearson being cleared by a Friday, then extending that for a few days until he was right, started this rumor as well.

As it stands today, based purely on Butch's press conference discussion and the smile on Jakob's face in media day pics, I would say that this rumor is false.
