2011 Record: 5-7, 2012 Roughly Projected Record: 6-6

"The Vols should get back on the bowl track, but it’s going to take a fight to do it unless QB Tyler Bray turns into the star pro prospect many think he could be. The offensive line took its lumps last year, and now it’s far more experienced and can’t help but be better. The secondary is loaded with experience and should be one of the best in the SEC East, but will it be enough to overcome a mediocre pass rush? Getting Alabama from the West is a bad break made worse by being the lone home date in a four game stretch with road games against Georgia, Mississippi State, and South Carolina. Closing out with three home games in the final four should make for a nice November, but first the team has to be in range to go bowling. Having Georgia State and Akron on the slate should help."

I can't believe this Vols team finishes 6-6 unless we start off 1-2 with losses to NC State & UF and the wheels fall off. I think the conversion to the 3-4 defense is more difficult than most on Volnation are anticipating, but 8 wins is really a possibility.

I think Scout is wrong, but we need to make major progress this year to shake the perception that our better days are behind us.

So Scout is predicting Dooley being fired, nice.

If this team manages to only win 6 games I'm afraid to see VN.....

am i the only one reading that as scout has no clue what they're talking about? are they not aware that UA is our permanent cross-divisional rival? getting bama isn't a bad break, it's just the third saturday in october.

This only further sets up for what I think is going to be a awesome season and story. You can put money on that!

"We had a bad break pulling bama from the west"

That line shows u how much scout knows about the vols... bad break, they are our permanent opponent idiot's.

This is why you should never read anything national media has to say about your team.. because it is complete garbage.

I agree with you. I read this article the other day and thought the same thing. There were some other points in it that I thought were odd. The author seems to think NC State is a top notch team and that UT is basically loaded at running back. Both statements stretched the truth a tad, I thought.

I'm with the OP. eight wins this year.

They have over 100 teams they make projections on. Their analysis probably is based on last year's record and a few other press reports. They are slime just like about everybody who calls themselves reporters. They are bandwagon jumpers who like to play it safe to save their paychecks.

UT could lose to every ranked team on the schedule and still go 8-4:

UA
GA
UF
SC

Throw in another loss to either Missouri/NC State/Miss. State and UT is still 7-5.
Those last 3 mentioned UT should win.

I think the talent and experience on this team is good enough to win 10 games and play for the SEC Championship this year. Whether or not, we have the coaches, leadership, discipline, and focus needed to do that is still up in the air. For me, the only guaranteed wins that I see are Georgia State, Akron, Troy, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky. With the right breaks, we could beat anybody on our schedule. Seven of the 12 teams are capable of beating us too though.

Judging by this prediction, Dooley is gone.

But I just can't see how this is a 6-6 team. But then again, i didn't imagine us going 5-7 last year.

Scout, Rivals, ESPN, don't have a lot of confidence Dooley is the answer to getting the Vols back on track. Only Dooley can change that perception.

I said the same exact thing to myself after reading it.

With the addition of the WR's we brought in this your and the experience gained last year by Worley. I don't see injuries being an issue this year unless we have multiple injuries at the same positions. The kicker is going to be how well the defense picks up the new scheme.

I truly believe the key for this upcoming season will be the running game. Being able to run the ball will do wonders for this team. I think Bray and company will be fine and the defense will be same as last year if not better. Also being able to kick the ball wouldn't be too shabby either.
