Scott Van Pelt loves Tennessee?

Scott Van Pelt loves common sense and logic. Mandel and most media are ridiculous as they are the one's who "overhype". The expectation for Tennessee was about 8-4 and second in east. UGA was supposed to have been better. UT should have won East in hindsight, but they were not expected to do much more than they did this year. They create silly narratives and blast players and teams for not living up to hype that they build. Peyton dealt with that in 97. They created "Clemsoning" when Clemson hasn't really fit that label. It amazes me how a journalism degree makes one a sports expert. They are an arrogant much, mist of them at least. I saw Mandel's tweet and wondered when in the last decade Tennessee has had a high expectation and not lived up to it. media deemed them a "trendy" pick this year, then media chirps when they don't deliver. The program was dead for 5 years and expected to make strides in 2015 but really be in national conversation in 2016. Everything is pretty much as it should be. Tennessee should be highly rated net season and deserves any criticism it gets for not living up to it, but to deem them overrated this year is lame.

Northwestern beat Stanford this year and got trounced by Tennessee. NW was #13 as of this morning. Which team deserves to be called overrated?

We weren't overrated this year! We were 23rd in the preseason. We were 23rd entering the game today. Will end up in the top 20.

By definition, that is not overrated. So tired of hearing and reading that we'll be overrated 'again'.

I saw that earlier. It's really all justified. Btw...a couple of weeks ago after the final four were finalized, Dan lebatard said on his show "I'm not so sure that if you put tn in this thing right now they wouldn't win it all". I think we're starting to win over ESPN. Lol

Sometbing go the effect of "Vols win big, let the overhype start for next season"

Basically referencing how we kind of didn't live up to the hype year as some people thought we would win the East. And kind of inferring that it was going to happen again.

What's funny is the majority of even VOL FANS picked a 2nd place finish. Yeah, definitely let the media down.

Coming into the season, I was thinking 7-6 was the worst case scenario, 9-4 were my expectations, and I thought 11-3 was the ceiling. Tennessee proved many times over that they could compete with anyone in the country this year. Next year, we have to get over the hump and start winning those games.

I thought ESPN hated us?

ESPN did not show Outback Bowl highlights during the Sugar Bowl halftime show. They showed every other bowl game played today, and did not even mention a word about our game. Scumbags.

ESPN may not hate us, but I hate ESPN.

Just to add on... I stayed up to watch sportscenter after the sugar... They opened with Stanford... Then osu vs notre dame... Then Michigan stomp Florida... Back to Ole miss coverage.. Then switched to NBA... Not a word on our bowl game today, 1 hour in and unless I missed it I haven't seen a single word

ESPN wouldn't show Outback coverage in a 20 minute segment if it was between Notre Dame vs Southern Cal.

And I don't know what you were watching, but between 12-1:30 am I saw Outback coverage like 3 times.

I can't believe a guy from Iowa wanted to get involved. As SVP said, we "Beat the Snot" out of them last year. We have haters because they all realize that we are not the Lil brother who gets slapped around. It's just a natural fear reaction. Try to insert your dominance over someone who's weaker. The days of getting punched in the mouth are over.

You've got to realize a contending Tennessee team spells trouble for a lot of other teams. Hence the toxic response. However I do agree we need to keep expectations low and build momentum throughout the season. Not a negaVol at all here. Extremely please with how we closed out that game yesterday BUT being Captain Obvious here but Dobbs MUST MUST MUST develop the throw game if we are to contend on the level we hope next season,,,,and I for one believe he WILL..

That was kind of funny.

Not sure how many people know this but the night Butch was hired, SVP was one of the first media members on twitter to proclaim what a great hire it was. Lots were complaining, including me, and he even replied to me that Butch would win here.

Also pretty sure that one of the first guests on his live SC show was Butch.
