Scott Frost fired…wonder if he might end up on UT staff

You hire guys who were talented enough as assistants or mid major head coaches to land major coaching jobs, but couldn’t succeed as the head man at that level. That adds a lot to your staff. And it brings fresh ideas and perspectives. There’s a reason it’s worked for Saban.

Frost has a good offensive mind. He showed that at UCF. His offense was a bad fit at Nebraska. But he would add a lot to UT’s staff as an assistant.

Danny White hired him at UCF. He won big at UCF with White as AD. There’s a connection. I’d like to see it.

Hell, they’re still riding the crash from firing Frank Solich. Bo Pelini was their Kiffin, if we’d have had to pay Kiffin to go coach at Suwanee. Dude ate their lunch.

I think his offense is basically Mark Helfrich’s. I think Helfrich is currently selling KIAs somewhere in the Midwest. Possibly not a good sign for Frosts future.

Nebraska are morons for not waiting a couple of weeks. As for Frost, I don't see any reason he'd want to come here and any reason we'd need him. Frost is what he is, a long time losing coach. He had a single good year at UCF, which is clearly a major fluke/outlier in his career. He never had a top 50 in the nation offense at Nebraska, his best year there was his first when it was 58th. He bottomed out at 23ppg over the 2020 season, 102nd in the nation. His other year at UCF they were 66th in the nation in PPG. They scored a lot of points at Oregon when he was OC, but he was working for Mark Helfrich who was Chip Kelly's OC. They just kept running the same offense. Even then, Oregon's ppg actually fell when he took over as OC.

Nebraska is an athletic program which has struggled with extremely poor leadership, not too dissimilar to the mess Tennessee had wallowed in for a number of years, inept athletic leadership, with academic and administrative leadership which was even worse, Nebraska doesn't have an open NCAA investigation and I doubt Ms. Frost was handing out cash to recruits, but how Nebraska spiraled into the ongoing mess is very easy to understand, it's not the big 90s anymore anywhere

I still hold a grudge against Nebraska for how it manhandled Peyton's last team in the bowl game, but it is somewhat sad that a once storied program like that is mired in mediocrity (probably worse than mediocrity). Maybe it's sad to me because it is like looking in the mirror for UT.

I think Nebraska signed its own death warrant when it left the Big 12 for the Big Ten. Nebraska used to go into Texas and get the core of its players and then recruit nationwide to add to what it got from Texas. The sales pitch to Texas recruits and their families was Nebraska played in Texas 4-6 times a year and so the families could see them in Texas and make the drive to Nebraska a couple times a year and see their sons play and that went away when the Big Ten schedule became Nebraska's. Without that sales pitch, the natural recruiting footprint shifted away from Texas and the program has never been the same. Maybe Nebraska should consider going back to the new Big 12 as I bet the conference would take it back and it would be a better fit.

That is true. I think the extra 7.5 mil was a 'thank you' for his loyalty to the school and for being a great Husker player. More to the point, they probably also figured it was worth the money to avoid the PR hit that was sure to come if they waited until Oct. 1 just for the cheaper buyout.

I mean I knew he was gone…..but dang they wait just two more games and they would have saved 7.5 million.

They think they salvaging this season?

Call me an idiot…….heck I’ve wanted some of Tennessee coaches fired like this……but 7.5 is a lot. I’m guessing someone must have stepped up and put money in the pot.

If anyone ever needed to be fired……it was Frost. I thought he would be Golden…….I was WAY off……he wasn’t even a Golden turd…….he was just a lingering white turd that laid around too long.

As this was public knowledge, I expect they met in the middle with a reduced buyout to do it NOW. And if not, you ask your money people for the difference. The Big Ten’s TV package will also cover it. You lose credibility by waiting.
