Scoop on Fulmer from inside UT athletics!

ksushalovesthevols is cracking me up. Keep it coming. Your opinions fit right in with most of the other ridiculous posters on this site. Cut and Clawson had the same hand in the decision making? Ha ha. Thats classic. Not being able to improve the football IQ of Crompton is his fault? Some things cannot be taught. Crompton's shortcomings at QB are things that cannot be taught.

IMO Crompton should have never emerged from fall practice as the starter. That was becoming clear during the UCLA and clearer in each subsequent game.

I hear what you are saying, but Clauson and Fulmer made a mistake starting Crompton over Stephens and that is completely on the coaching staff. From what I saw, Stephens probably would have played well enough for UT to beat UCLA and Auburn. If Fulmer and Clauson lose their job this season, then they can point to that decision as one of the main reasons, and they really have no one to blame but themselves.

They still are in a position to go 4-1 the rest of the season, and 7-5 for the season, and probably save their jobs. If Stephens can continue to get better they have a shot against Vandy, Ky, and SC now. :twocents:

If the Vols pull out a victory against the Tide...then Fulmer is safe for 1 more year!. If he loses...then that's probably it.

Fulmer probably don't care if Clawson leaves or not if he is a threat to his job. I also heard that Fulmer was told to hire him.

interesting.

if true, i wonder if fulmer was also told to promote sanders to OC? or to promote chavis to DC? or to keep crompton at QB?

hard to tell just exactly what is going on up on the hill, isn't it?

after the season, if fulmer is still around, he needs to pull a tuberville and tell clawson thanks, but hit the road. It didn't work out.

You're not the only person with this opinion, but I honestly don't share it. Clawson continues to have my support.

I agree. Until I see an offense on the field that looks different than the last 16 years, I will not believe this is Clawson's offense or his fault. Unless Clawson is actually given a little control where he can put the players on the field that he wants and run the type of offense he wants, I will not blame him.

I firmly believe that if Clawson were our head football coach, Tennessee would be back to consistent top ten caliber in three to four years...

And I'd love to see who he'd bring on to run the D...

Please say it ain't so! Phillip Fulmer is UT football. This will be a sad day if it does come to pass. He won 75% of his games, bled orange, and has taken UT to the next level. Keeping a program their year in and year out, especially in the SEC is unheard of.

Now, has anyone heard if Gruden is retiring?

You are correct on one point. He did take UT to the next level and then has allowed to it slowly erode to a point that it is now worse than the program he inherited. They are no longer relevant on a national level. It happens all the time. You hit the pinnacle in your profession and then get lax and eventually things begin to erode. Look at the numbers from 1999-present. Numbers do not lie.

If it actually is the case that Clawson is being completely handcuffed by Fulmer, what reason do those of you who support him have for believing this will ever change?

that is a really bold statement OWH. (not that I disagree)

I think most of the guys are saying if he becomes HC. If he is HC who is going to handcuff him. The boosters? Not likely if he is actually winning.

How many head coaches have we had in the last 20 years? Whom ever comes behind CPF will have to win his first season. It won't be like South Carolina. Be careful what you wish for!!!!!!:)

I agree that that statement is pretty bold. Not saying that Clawson couldn't get us there, but how you can make that assumption on a guy who hasn't been a HC at a DI-A school? I can't think of too many DI coaches period, that I would put that much backing behind.

'win'.. and 'consistent top ten caliber', are different animals to my thinking..

The talent exists to set us back in the right direction quickly. In that sense I agree with you..
