Is there a date required for a schedule to be made or is the basketball schedule for next year already made.

I don't think he will have a soft schedule. He is a big time coach and want to be good. I think they will be middle of the road with the schedule. That matters for March when you trying to get in the NCAA tournament.

Late last April many of the non-conference opponents were announced and the holiday tournament. But not the dates.

Correct. Barnes has always played top flight schedules.
A lot of great games will be lined up in TB going forward.

I read on the 24/7 sports site that Marshall University is coming to TBA next season and UT does go to Butler next season to complete a home and home series.

Not every team participates, but there's also the SEC/Big12 challenge. Does TN owe KSU a trip to Manhattan, KS?

Speaking of the SEC/Big12 challenge... I wonder when UT v UT will be scheduled.

I don't know if UT will be participating in the SEC/Big12 challenge this season and a future match up between UT and Texas might be a few years away from happening.

The butler thing is cool. Their gym is really historic and a pretty cool place to see a game. Should be a nice matchup. Also are the vols in the Maui Invitational in 2016 or 2017?

He doesn't think that scheduling a dozen lousy teams in November and December and piling up wins is conducive to getting into the NCAA's. The only reason Texas got in this season was because they had the 16th toughest schedule in the country. They played Iowa, Cal, UConn, Stanford, and Kentucky all away from Austin. One of his mid-major games was with North Dakota State, who's dangerous if you don't come to play. I'd suspect the word is out that Tennessee will play anybody going forward, not that we haven't been playing good OOC schedules anyway.

I imagine Barnes will play a softer schedule his first couple of years. I can't say I blame him either.

Absolutely needs to until we get some real talent in here to compete with quality teams. We got a couple good players returning, but not enough depth to compete with the big boys.

with the GT series being announced today, what other out of conference games are we looking at? @Butler, @KState,...what else?

East Tennessee State, my alma mater, is coming to Knoxville coached by Steve Forbes, who was with Bruce Pearl at Tennessee for five years and spent the last two at Wichita State. They have added a 7', 230# juco and a 6'10", 225# freshman to their roster. Lester Wilson, Petey McClain, Devon Harris, and Isaac Banks with around 20 minutes or better playing time are returning. Shemar Johnson, a 6'6" swingman joins Peter Jurkin (Juba, South Sudan), and junior college transfers T.J. Cromer (Albany, Ga.) and Nigel Holley (Wilmington, N.C.) as members of the Buccaneers recruiting class. They will be a tough out for the Vols.

I know TJ Cromer personally. He and Jabari played against each other through high school and were our cross town rivals. They also used to challenge each other in a little friendly one on one. Jabari's dad and Tj's mom work together. We've got history with him. That guy shoots a mean Tre ball. I don't know about now but back then he rarely missed a shot.

Can't wait to see them out there going at it again.
