On the flip side, how do fire a coach that beats Florida twice in a row and Georgia three straight?
Your first scenario is highly unlikely. Georgia and Florida both have better chances of holding a 6-2 or better conference record than we do given our respective schedules.
I'm certainly OK with that, but someone has to win the East. It doesn't mean you accomplished a whole lot but at least you're on the ballot.
If we beat Bama...sure.
NOPE! The pumpers will remind you what poor Butch inherited...even though it's been 5 seasons removed.
Florida will have 7-8 new starters on Defense, so maybe we can get to them early before that Defense gels.
Happens all the time. The team and fans were super-charged to play against Florida, Florida was overconfident, the UT home crowd was insane that day which definitely affected momentum. Most of that was missing against Vandy.
I think the idea that UF will have a huge fall-off on defense is overstated. I'm not seeing the 7-8 new starters either; Cece Jefferson at DE, multiple starts and extensive playing time, Jabari Zuniga at DE, sack leader last year, extensive playing time/starts, interior d-linemen Bryan and Clark both played extensively in every game, not sure if they technically "started" every game but you cant find a game where they didn't get serious playing time. LB's Reese/Johnson/Joseph played entire SEC games and started many with how banged-up UF was at LB last year. This trio started the LSU, Bama and Bowl Game, and played all season long. Corners Chauncey Gardner and Duke Dawson had many starts at safety and nickel last year (especially Dawson). Gardner is expected to be the next great one at UF. Both safeties have played a ton of football; Marcel Harris and Nick Washington.
They'll need some Freshmen and underclassmen to emerge for depth, but have a look at UF's ridiculous incoming DB's and you'll see that secondary is not a concern. LB is the biggest concern on the defense after the three starters and Jeremiah Moon. Nobody beyond those four jump out right now.
What scenario costs Butch his job?
The Gators play the candy east teams,UGA,UT,aTm,and LSU. Those are 4 possible losses. Michigan makes 5 but 4 SEC possible losses. UGA plays east,Fla,UT,Miss St,and Auburn. 4 possible losses but one beats other so one will have 3 at worst. Can we beat mighty Vandy, powerful Cocks,Cats,Mizzou,UGA,Fla,LSU,and Bama? I believe that we beat LSU. They have no QB,we do. Fla in swamp is a hard row to hoe. UGA in Neyland is a 50-50% right now. All the candy teams in the east,we should beat. I'm going to assume that we do. I guarantee KY will beat one of the better teams this year,BTW. Bama is nigh impossible. We have a 15-20% chance. Anything can happen and Hurts isn't that good. So,as you can see,one of Fla and UGA will have 2-3 losses in SEC. 75%. We have a 45% chance at Fla. A 50% chance with UGA,a 65% chance hosting LSU,and a 15% at Bryant-Denny. Our chances to lose to a weak east team is 40%. combined. Jones best coach his ass off. We can do it. We can make ATL. We may have given UF and UGA a loss and tie break to us. That evens out the Bama game if we can. The D will be the main concern I have. They play good,10 wins. Poor 8. GBO GOVOLS
