Terrorist attacks/Asteroid Impact/Mothra occur the week of the Bama game, moving it to the end of the season. Crompton throws for 400 yards 5 TDs 0 INTs and has the game winning drive against Undefeated Alabama. We finish the season 7-6, knock Bama out of National Title consideration, and beat Wake Forest in the Gaylord Hotels Music City bowl.

We find out Crompton had a terminal illness the whole time (Chris Lofton), he beats it, and manages to finish 8-5, with a bowl win over Rutgers in the papajohns.com bowl.

With Nick Stephens at the helm (due to Crompton's broken non-throwing hand--not horrible play) we are 5-6 going into the Kentucky game. NS coughs up 4 turnovers, and gets injured. All hope is lost. Down 30-7 in the 4th, Crompton takes the field with his broken wrist, combs his mustache, throws an 80 yard TD to Zack Rogers, sprints down the sideline in front of the UK bench, Smokey in tow, and goes on to score 28 unanswered to extend the streak over Kentucky. He gets the start in the Advocare V100 Independence bowl against Texas Tech, and throws for close to 500 yards in a 47-10 win.

All three of these would enable me to give Crompton a pass for at least a couple years. Any others?

At this point, I'd just keep playing Crompton.

If Lane can turn him into a decent QB, that's a feather in his cap. There still are flashes of that possibility.

JC's redemption is that he leaves UT with a dregree and can probably be a productive member of society. However, I don't think he can launch a Realty company in Knoxville like another former QB did and it be successful. The only coat tails he can ride, lead out of town.

If he just learns to control his emotions, play without doubting, and throws the ball on time. He's put the work in. He apparently knows what he's supposed to do. There's just something in his head that causes him to doubt and hesitate... of course that could be the fact that UT doesn't have anyone playing WR at an SEC worthy level too.

So in short, he needs to play like he's physically capable and then get help from the receivers. Sounds simple doesn't it?

When he leads the Pride of the Southland after a win over an SEC opponent other than KY and Vandy.

I just hope he and the drum major have a clean exchange of the wand.

I sure hope he manages to do something on the field to hold his head high about.

Nobody should endure the ire this kid has stirred, and never have one great moment to point to.

A win over UGA this Saturday would be a big start.

And it is possible with Slick Willie's D coming into Neyland.
