Scares me! Team's unusual arrangements

The Breeder's Cup featuring the Triple Crown winner is such a huge international affair that tickets are still available through the Breeder's Cup website. How will Tennessee survive this weekend?

I just checked. Cheapest seats available for Saturday. $500 per.
You're right man. The BC is not a big deal at all the UT vs UK football game is an international boon.

Remember, the Vols stood around vs LSU in 2005 and fell behind 21-0 at the half.....

100,000 plus is just for those attending the Breeder's cup. Throw in media, network production crews, throw in "entourages" and owner's and their family. Now you take a mid-sized town like Lexington, chances of finding a decent hotel that would have an open block of 50 plus hotels is pretty slim. There is no reason that when the schedule is made that they couldn't have given UK a road game or bye week since they knew a major event was also going on.

Come on man. The BC is no big deal. Hell, I bet there are hotel rooms going empty since UT chose Cincy. LULZ
More brilliance for VN brain trust.

sounds very logical to me. If you have ever traveled that interstate it's 3 lane and should take around 1.5 hrs max by bus. Stay in better accommodations in cincy, practice in a pro stadium, get addressed by their coach and stay out of all the craziness in lexington right now. You are blowing this way out of proportion.

exactly

Again, Tennessee wouldn't have stayed in Lexington regardless

When the schedule was made, American Pharaoh was just another horse eating oats in a barn somewhere.

SEC home office had no idea that AP would blow up the racing world OR that he would be making an appearance at the BC when they moved this game up a week or two.

Only three people bid on Paul McCartney's guitar pick, but it still went for $12,000.

High price does not == huge numbers of people trying to buy. It's only a measure of supply vs demand and estimated value among those who are buying.

This economics 101 lesson brought to you by the Breeders' Cup and Kentucky Football. :)

Pretty much. ATL for UGA and sometimes Auburn. Jacksonville or mostly Ocala for Florida. This isn't out of the norm. OP is just a whiny nervous nelly.

Keeneland reserve seats number just over 21,000. Even with GA and standing room, you're not sniffing 100,000 daily. Get real people

This team has resiliency. They have been focusing on eye discipline. With the snap and clear mentality that has been instilled in them, they will overcome these critical obstacles in critical situations with critical criticality.

Exactly. We re good as long as the bus driver has charted the proper course between.

I stand corrected guys. The Breeder's Cup is little more than a swap meet. This is yet another example of the incompetence of the Jones era. FAHR Butch!!! We all know the Metropolis that is Lexington has more than enough quality rooms that are literally walking distance from the stadium. FAHR Butch

I think you need help

He was actually getting a shower if we're going to be this specific

You are correct, but the Breeder's Cup is the super bowl of horse racing. So in the horsing world, regardless of the attendance of a triple crown winner, this was still a big deal. It shouldn't be surprising that hotel rooms are at a premium.

Like Churchhill downs and the infield, Keeneland has good sized GA areas. Church Hill, while official capacity is 50,000, had over 170,000 for the Derby. There will be over 100,000 there for the weekend for sure.

No. Both the Kentucky Derby and Dubai are way bigger and infinitely more prestigious.

The 50,000 without seats and standing room, what are they going to be doing?

Pharoah wouldn't even be there if they lost the last leg of the TC

Quit comparing the two. They aren't close in size

As to Breeders impact locally:

I think there's a misconception about how large Lexington is - it is more of a spread out small town than anything. It is also worth noting that Lexington never manages large scale events well from a traffic/capacity point of view, in part because it was built as a small town that never got proper improvements once it started to grow.

But whatever resources Lexington has, it's devoting that to Breeders. Because they are guessing it will be about $65,000,000 in total impact.

LINK: The Breeders' Cup is expected to have a $65 million impact on Lexington

Keeneland added significant additions to accommodate the expected visitor total, about 45,000 people per day with additional in the surrounding tailgate area, along with increased numbers on staff, security, etc.... The total assumed visitors per day is around 60,000.

Not counting all of the teams, etc... associated with the event.

So it's a big deal, both in terms of people and money, that is swallowing the town whole for a few days, kind of like how the World Equestrian Games did a few years ago.

As to the impact on UT's performance Saturday:

What?

60,000 is about 40% less than this supposed 100k. Thanks for the details

You're smoking crack.
To the casual fan the Derby is bigger. But within the Industry the BC is more coveted. They love the aged events (Triple Crown races, state Derby's etc) but they covet the BC.

I'm not leaving my house on Saturday. This town is going to be a mess.

But was it scary?

The only scary scene I remember was waking up in a South Carolina hotel to find the sheets dotted with drops of blood from all the bed bug bites. Some players and staff had random rashes too. We did not stay in the same hotel on the next trip to play SC.
