Scared Straight Program

As long as they are in the front of the car, and not in the back, I am in full support of this. I would never want to deal with the things inner city cops deal with. Way too many homeless, drug attics, and crazy people on the daily basis. Let's hope this is a quick learning experience.

I know this is way off topic but Jackson garrison. The former Vanderbilt running back is now a a police officer it would be kind of interesting for our players to ride with him

Good to hear.Maybe some of our knuckle head players will act mature in public now.

Maybe.

I'm sure Dooley wants this to be an exercise in maturity for his ball players. But I think he's also motivated to bridge the gap between his program and KPD.

If you're a cop, you're probably going to be more lenient with those you know and like. You ride around with Da'Rick Rogers for a couple of days, learn about his background, family, share a couple of laughs....you see him a Bar Knoxville 2 weeks later actin' a fool, maybe you cut him some slack and tell him to get his ass home instead of cuffin' him and putting his name across the ticker on ESPN.

Exactly.

I just read at Govolsxtra that CDD is making players ride around with Knox. police officers thinking it will help. And eventually every player will have to. I was wondering what yalls take on this was? I think its bad for recruiting as this would be a major turn off for young kids who want nothing to do with cops as it is much less have to ride around with 1 for 4 hours. I can already hear recruits " hell naw, I aint going there and riding around with them pigs" And I know some of you are gonna say "well we dont need that type of character anyway" well character aint gonna beat out talent . Maybe Im over analyzing, but this will have to turn more than a few more kids away from UT

It seems that when our guys don't ride up front, they're more likely to ride in the back. I'd rather have them up front.

It should discourage recruits more prone to behaviors associated with riding in the back.

It's a good thing, imo.

I think it's a big deal over nothing. Dooley is doing this to change the culture in the program with the current players. It is much more difficult to get in trouble for a 2011 and 2012 recruit if they come here and the culture is completely changed, and we have responsible, young men instead of athletes that think they are above the law.

There are two problems with the current culture of the program.

1. The "thug" mentality
2. The "loser" mentality

Dooley's problems right now go way beyond just the talent and depth on the field. He has to teach this team how to win and help instill a program based on work ethic and accountability. Once the overall culture is fixed, then we will have a "team." I'm impressed with this year's recruiting class. People like Randolph, Smith, Kerbyson, Posey, Crowder, Downs, Parker, and Saulsberry may be 3 star players currently, but these kids are going to produce results for this program and fit the scheme that Dooley, Chaney, and Wilcox are about to install. Then when we close this class with Wright and/or Johnson, Clear, Richardson, etc.... then people will see how huge of a class this is because it gives us quality depth and talent where we most need it right now. Just stop freaking out so much, right now. I know it's hard with all that we've been through, but we will be back.
