This is very good idea, and kinda funny.

Twitter / Jimmy Hyams: UT coach Derek Dooley has ...

UT coach Derek Dooley has had 15 football players – mostly freshman – do ride-a-longs with Knoxville PD to better understand authority.

Dooley will make it mandatory for incoming players or those that get in trouble with the law. He wants better relations with AD/police dept.

(I wonder how many will discredit this information, just because of the source?)

Fulmer used to do it as well.

not according to the officer that was interviewed on radio. He indicated that this was a new program that had not been done before. Either way, it seems like a great program to me that I think could really pay dividends for the both parties.

I know that I have heard Fulmer used to do ride alongs as well. It may not have been very recent, but he did them.

I don't think being handcuffed in the back counts as a "ride along", but then again maybe it does. Semantics!

Reacting to players being in trouble is different from implementing a program for all new members of the team and anyone who gets in trouble. I love this...

I know that it was done when Fulmer was the coach, but I think it was done as a punishment for getting in trouble. One I can remember in particular was Colquitt after his last DUI - hit and run incident in the old city.

Fulmer would swap player ride alongs for free Donuts from the Capt. of Knoxville Police. He was never not full......

Dooley is definitely a problem solver. I think this is a great idea, I really like how Dooley has handled things so far. Now, if we can just start winning some games...
