I think Herman will wish he stayed at Houston. Texas is throwing the bank at him to bring this program back to relevancy next year. Comparatively, Texas has fewer excuses than TN does to win now. They have unlimited resources ($), tradition and are in a recruiting hot bed. They HAVE to win. Every coach that they bring in there is on an egg timer to turn that program around. Talk about a pressure cooker!

Coach O completely turned USC's season around when they fired Kiffin....he has come a long way from when he was at Ole Miss....I think with the right coordinators he will be just fine...and plenty of talent already there so he doesn't have to turn much around.

Helton got spanked by Bama...but it was the first game of the year...very young team...with not much depth but a ton of talent. He is in a very bad conference by recent year's PAC standards.

None of these guys have had to come in from behind the worse Major Conference HC of the last 50 years "Derek Dooley" and rebuild EVERYTHING...the mental vision of always quitting and losing...Kentucky football level talent at the majority of key positions...one whole recruiting year of ZERO offensive linemen signed for a class.

These are reasons why Butch is getting upset....yeah we didn't win the East. But we are on the cuff of the FREAKING SUGAR BOWL....means a lot to me at least to be going to it...and not facing Bama again to get the hell kicked out of us twice in one season by them then go to a lower tier bowl. To many on here are down playing that in itself....EAST is a must...but not winning it is a blessing.

You tell those nega vols OP. We are going to be stuck with Butch forever. No way Tennessee could ever hire a good coach so why even try? Best be thankful that we even have a coach at all.

We have a man right now that is recruiting great this season for the positions of need this cycle...and in still on some big name recruits. Has us in a position to go to the Sugar Bowl...beat Florida...beat Georgia back to back seasons...looking at a possible 10 win season after 9 wins last season...and NO ONE has a crystal ball to say he does not improve beyond that next year. He is a few position coaches away from having a truly top caliber staff if he upgrades the DB/OL coaches...and possibly an upgraded OC that has more experience in production with the spread than DeBord. I think being a player's first HC taught him a lesson with the Hurd situation...when a player is me me me 1st it becomes a cancer to team unity and it is best to cut him loose early rather than let him linger and disrupt those putting in the effort to be champions....in things other than life.

Florida may lose 3 straight games but they are playing for a real championship not a game of life championship.

I just don't understand why winning the east and playing for a championship is not important. Big game butch has pissed away 2 sec east titles and most of our fan base is ok with that.

How many years does butch need to win the east?

Coach O has also taken over top jobs and won as an interim. Can't necessarily say he's the same coach as Ole Miss. I mean he won more SEC games this year as interim than his whole three seasons at Ole Miss.

Sorry your so sensitive. I simply pointed out why he should have a better 1st season than Butch did...Smart is following a proven winner in Mark Richt...Butch is following the most prolific epic dumpster fire loser in college football's modern era...Derek Dooley.

Jury is still out on Smart....there is plenty of time for him to destroy what Richt built there.

The past two years it has only taken a first year and second year coach.

True, but if you're and LSU fan are you happy with firing Miles for a position coach? Never even been a coordinator? Bizarre move st best

11 seasons and he lost less than 9 twice.

Lots of guys can drive a caddy when you hand the keys to them. Larry Coker has a NC ring.

The jury is still out on butch. I don't care what anyone says. Yes he can recruit but his in-game coaching is very suspect. Also the adjustments made in the previous offseasons are very questionable. Yes he has won 2 bowl games vs ranked teams, but should have never dropped the OU UF and ARK games last year. Yes he beat UGA and UF this year but still managed to drop the east title. Its year 4 and the jury is still out, I think everyone needs to hold off on the good or bad coach debate until after the bowl game. Unless he drops the vandy game of course . gotta admit the program is in a better place than 5 years ago, for now.

Few of us think the jury is in. I've probably criticized Butch as much as anyone. I just think recent hires around CFB show you need to be careful when you go firing 8-9 win coaches.

You don't can a Miles, Richt or a Fulmer unless you have already reached out to the "home run" guy and there's interest.

I'm not "ok with that."
I am ok with butch being the best coach we can get. That's the problem with the fire butch crowd. They can't admit that there isn't a proven better coach willing to take this job for the same money.

If you look at Florida's schedule they rarely play anyone in non conference games except FSU. Last game of the year. We always play Alabama. They dont. Sorry LSU is no Bama. Our conference schedule is front loaded most of the time. Our team is usually beat up worn down by seasons end. Until we get more depth and can quit losing star players to injury we will not win the east anytime soon. Butch Jones isn't a bad coach. But he is not a great game day coach. Our main reason we have not won the east isn't Jones fault. It's our OLINE. And I still blame Dooley for that. You cant go an entire recruiting class and not take any oline players. And then you mix in injuries and bust and your depth sucks. We are losing a lot of talent this year. But we have some very talented players that will be on the roster next year. I firmly believe our oline will be better next year. Our defense will have another year to learn the system. What has to change is game preparation and learning how to use our skill players to their fullest. I'm not sure Butch can do that.
