you're comparing a 1-AA team to Air Force? :eek:k:

Again, VIA just showed you how great those passing offenses are and you're still touting your pass defense as a saviour for the team? Open your eyes, please.

Um, no offense, but this is incredibly ignorant. It DOES matter who you play. In fact, it means almost everything.
I didn't really mean for it to come off like that. I just ment that our secondary didn't set our schedule, but they have still gone out and performed pretty darn good. Kind of like the school that goes undefeated and wins by a wide margin in every game, but they didn't really play anyone. They didn't set their schedule but they still took care of buisness anyway. Teams made the same argument you are making last year, and I understand that, but at what point do people take our secondary seriously? Last year it was "ya'll havent played anyone", and then we still finished the season top 15, then the excuse was "the early season games were too easy."

Even if our pass defense isn't as good as the stats say, it is still a hell of a lot better than our run defense. So most teams just try to run the ball on us anyway, and I guess you could say that is another reason for the good pass defense stats. Our secondary is our strength, now how stong is that strength? I guess only time will tell.

This is a good point. I like the point and stand a bit corrected. However, you have to admit, Air Force >>>>>>>>>>>> Wofford.
Definatley, I know Air Force would beat them, and im sure if we played Wofford again we would beat them pretty bad. Its hard to spend a lot of time coaching a defense to stop that offense when you know your not going to see that offense again.

I was NOT trying to get into an argument about Wofford or Air Force. I stand by what I say, we just couldn't figure out the triple option that day, but we still won the damn game. If you want to make yourselves feel better about a 1 point win over Air Force just because they are better than Wofford go ahead. The fact still remains that we should have beat both schools worse than we did, but we didn't, Oh well! UGA won the SEC title a few years ago and almost lost to 1-aa Georgia Southern in the beginning of the season because of that same offense.

Please tell me that the other people on the SC site from which you took this post got this guy into counseling before he hurt himself.

South Carolina often does come on strong the second half of the season, so who knows? They played Auburn pretty tough. Anything can happen in the SEC. Plus, Spurrier (unfortunately) is a good coach.

It won't be a cakewalk for us. Having said that, I do think we will win.

UGA won that game 48-28 and it wasn't that close, they just gave up a chunk of yards on the ground. But they could score at will.

I think most South Carolina fans would tell you that in spite of last year, that is not typically true. Their traditional finishing stretch is known as the "Orange Crush" for a reason (Florida, Tennessee, Clemson). They've elevated starting 5-2 and then fighting for a bowl to a science.

That being said, last year pretty much proved that all bets are off.

Of course our fans are going to have wishful thinking, we did it last year why not this year? Most of us know how difficult our remaining schedule is, and we are just taking it one game at a time, but there is no way to get out of the back of our mind that it is still a possibility. Besides, what is the reason for showing up if there is no hope?
My suggestion is "Don't show up because there's no hope!"

How about common opponents? That would be UGA, who we drubbed... they held USC to a goose egg. :)

so what? Vandy beat UGA. We got better and they got worse. We were in the red zone 3 times in the game, and we intercepted UGA 3 times, im not making any excuses, but if Newton was playing maybe it would have been different. We lost the UGA game and im thankful we did lose it the way we did. That game pissed Spurrier off so bad he made a lot of changes, so far they have worked.

I visited Ar-Kansas land and they think they'll beat us easily. In fact, they're more worried about winning against South Carolina.

If the Vols go thru this three game stretch undefeated then that will be quite an accomplishment.

My "dimentia" comment comes from looking at the VAST improvement of the teams in the "Orange Crush" section of your schedule.

I actually think Saturday will be far from a day at the beach, but to actually believe you can paste UT, Florida, and a Clemson team that just whooped Georgia Tech like they stole something is a little fantastic.

Actually no. I've actually been curious to see the responses about this.....here are a few of them....I'm sure you will love the second one:lol:

----Nice analysis! I'm glad I'm not the only one who believes we can get it done! I am looking forward to a rematch against Auburn in the Georgia Dome on our way to a win over Notre Dame in New Orleans!

----great post hardcore! one of the best i've read in quite some time. thank you for taking the time to educate some of us here!

----I agree as well. I think we get the extra benefit of Spurrier vs. Fulmer with SC vs. UT. Spurrier knows how to get in his head. I think UF is winable. I really worry about Arkansas. They bring unrelenting tempo and momentum to every game. Their strength is our weakness. My concern about Arkansas filters down to Klemtech. If we be Arkansas, we beat Clemson. They are actually turning out to being mildly one-dimensional.

So obviously all of SC's fans are in a dream world. I do think SC will test both Tenn and Florida in the first half, but I think both teams will prevail. Both of us have payback for last year. Being from SC, this is the game I want for Tenn to win the most!

I had almost forgotten how delusional Cock fans are. Glad we play them every year to remind me.

This is a team whose prowess on the football field garnered them close victories over Miss. St. and Wofford! Not to mention an 18-0 loss to the worst Georgia team in years.

Reading posts like "The Gamecocks can play with anyone in the nation." just cracks me up.

not fair to lump us all in with the fans over on scout. at the start of the season i believed 8-4 would be about right counting the ones weve won plus mtsu and ark in a few weeks and maybe one upset, but who really expected arkansas to be as good as theyve been. now hopefully 7-5 if we get lucky, 6-6 seems more realistic
though.

I actually read that one on CockyTalk, YDV. But you are correct about the problem with lumping an entire fanbase together. There are certainly USC fans that have their feet on the ground. You seem to be one of them. I actually expect the Cocks to bring a fight in their own house on Saturday, but the Vols SHOULD win going away. It just seems that a large portion of the fanbase overlooks UT, Arky, and even Florida and think the only real test left is Clemson.
