Say what you want. It all comes down to Team Health

So, because previous coaches (who coached in eras with less regular season games than currently) averaged 9 wins a season, we shouldn't expect Butch Jones coached teams to beat horrible USCe and Vandy teams?

Not sure I follow your logic.

There is no logic to the love fest for Butch. The pumpers have lowered the bar for success so far that it's embarrassing.

In 112 seasons we won 9 or more about 35% of the time. Given where we were when butch started, he's doing well above average. Strive to be realistic .

And how many of those seasons had 12 regular season games and 13-14 total games? The 12th game is a cupcake (APSU, UTC, TN Tech, etc.).

2016 was not supposed to be "average!"

Explain what? Two years that Jones SHOULD HAVE won the SEC East? Two years with at least 2 and probably 3 losses that should have been wins... in route to not winning a terribly weak SEC East?

Bad math is bad.... but praising the utter chokes of the last two years is good?

Here's some "math" for you. Jones took a roster that should have won at least 10 and probably 11 regular season games this year... and won 8. He took a team that had every opportunity in the world to win 10 or 11 last year... and won 8. He took a six win team in year one and won 5. He took a 7 win team in '14 and won six.

See the "mathematical" pattern here? Jones loses an average of 2 games per year that should have been wins with NO corresponding pattern in games that "should have" been losses but were wins.

If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. Should have according to who? You? How many other teams should have done better and didn't? With all the misfortune this year we won our third bowl game in a row. Some of us are happy we are winning again.

Winning seasons are nice but UT needs to turn the corner and compete for titles. It's time.

Some of you are insane. We started ranked in the top 10 and beat Florida and Georgia. Then we had a chance to go to the SECCG but things didn't work out. Fine. Then we had a chance to go to the Sugar Bowl and ummm ended up in the Music city Bowl and yeah, never mind. That was a disappointing ending.

Preseason rankings are participation ribbons. You play each game for a reason. We had injuries, we lost games we didn't want to lose and probably had no business losing. There is no could have anymore until next year .

It's like listening to mainstream media with key words. "Assault rifle", "racist" "xenophobia" "white privilege". Except here it's "should have beat vandy", " should have beat USC". "Recruiting sucks, they cant develop players or prevent injuries!"

I'm just saying you have you hardest working and best performing coach in a decade and you all want to run him off. I don't follow that logic.

Like this past season the results would have been much different if we could have stayed healthy. Losing a lineman or a receiver here or there is normal. Next year if the str. And conditioning program improves a great deal and we keep our starters on the field we will beat Florida and Ga. Again. And will not lose to South Carolina and Vandy. Just don't think this is talked about enough and we keep harping on Butch and Snoop.

Butch beat Florida once in 4 tries. Team health?

Butch lost to Vandy twice in 4 tries. Team health?

Butch lost to the freshest of freshman qb at USC. Team health.

Miracle fumble recovery and Hail Mary kept Butch from 2 more losses. That gonna happen again next year?

Butch folds when it's all on the line.

That will keep repeating itself.

That's just as likely as you saying Butch "will beat Florida and Georgia again. And not lose to Vandy and USC."

So we are setting the bar for UT coaching at "working really hard at it"?

It's fine to say that you are satisfied with a 9-4 season, even though we missed out on winning the SECE again, and still couldn't manage to beat the teams that were clearly inferior to the Vols in 2016, but I'm not. Getting to 8 regular season wins and playing in a 2nd tier bowl is the expectation of the Mississippi State/South Carolina programs not Tennessee.

When we beat both Georgia and Florida in the same season, I expect to challenge for the SEC championship. Butch has "butched" so many games with poor game day coaching, and poor team preparation that Vols football has become the posterchild for underperformance.

Some don't think CBJ can win a NC, and they are done with him. What I don't understand is they don't think he can get us that NC and they are fine with giving him more time. Not a match.

Laughable. Butch hasn't even gotten UT to the SEC championship game yet after 4 seasons, can't consistently beat the SEC cellar-dwellers, struggles consistently against MAC/Sunbelt teams, but you are trotting out some strawman argument about people upset with him for us not playing in the national championship.

Exactly. When the prize is a NC and he hasn't even gotten us to winning the east. Sounds like some are settling for an east title. I'm not, I want a NC. How close the games are getting there I don't care.

We do have fans that don't think he can even get us to the SECCG(does that feel better) but want to give him more time.

What's up with that?

Butch has a couple more cupcake games to get those 9 wins than prior coaches. Let's talk about a truer indicator of success... SEC win percentage.

Please, feel free to quote someone, anyone who has stated "I don't feel like Butch Jones will ever get UT to the SECCG, but regardless we should give him more time; you know, just to make sure that we are correct"

I'll wait.

Blaming the results of this year on injuries is like a golfer blaming his clubs when he sucks. Maybe we should ask the question why we had so many injuries. Could it be that our former strength coach, whom Botch hired, looked like he was on the McDonald's nutrition plan? It all comes back to Butch at the end of the day.

Breaking news : ALL TEAMS DEAL WITH INJURIES

It is impossible to talk to these clowns lol. Take away Alabama's starting 2 DTs starting best LB. starting best Cb. Starting best slot receiver and have one of their Rb. Quit. Tell me they were in the playoff. Ya I agree our str and conditioning program has sucked but it's not a dumpster fire of a program like you morons drum it up to be. And you bash anyone who tries to provide optimistic opions.

They might not make they playoffs but they still beat a 5-7 Vandy team or maybe the lose to them and Nebraska, or USC. Maybe they dont use injuries as an excuse to beat Mizzu or Kentucky ....now im really confused.

You are the one being unrealistic. This day and age everyone wants and expects things instantly, whether its television, internet, or winning football. The right coaches can rearrange the wins and loss column as soon as they walk in the door. Look at Michigan. The push for us to accept the results over the last two seasons is mind numbing to me. I don't want to win 8 every year then go dominate a below average B10 west team, and then watch our coach get carried off like he just won the title.

It's embarrassing.
