Say We Beat West Virginia...

Id be blown away if we beat both WV and UF to start the season 4-0.

I like CJP and think he’s capable but a turnaround like that would be impressive. It would change my mind on our rebuilding time table by a ton.

4-0 means an 8 win season in year one is actually doable. That would garner the national spotlight.

All things considered if coach Pruitt can get em to the music city bowl, any bowl, the first season I'll be good. It'll mean we beat at least 1 team we weren't thought to. Please please send Dan Mullen home 0-1!!!

Well, I want us to win as much as anyone on this board does, but once again our off season exuberance is amazing. I love the pro-VOLS feel, I truly do. I have just been alive long enough to see a lot of ups and downs. I am afraid we are walking into a buzz saw against WV. The only thing in our favor is it is the first game and defenses generally are a little further along than offenses. So maybe, just maybe there will be a little rustiness in WV’s O and our D will preform admirably and we steal a win. If they pick up where they left off before Grier’s injury, with most everyone returning in skill positions, plus some new players they could rout us. Hope it is a good game, and we somehow manage a win. I am just not going to be pushing we go 8-4. Hope we do, but I am not going to promote that, becuse if we do not hit it then the mob mentality will be out in force, ready to lynch CJP. New coach, new o, new D, unproven RB’s in this O, unproven QB’s, depleted OL, and front 7 on D using players recruited for a 4-3 D in a 3-4. That is a lot to overcome and be a good football team, which 8-4 wood be a good team record with our schedule this fall. GBO VFL

PS: Hope and pray you 8-4 people, and only UGA, BAMA, and AUB’s are better than us people are totally right. Just don’t be ready to replace the entire staff if we lose a game.

I feel your pain.

It's possible but by no means a foregone conclusion. Large gaps in talent to overcome from last coaching staff.

There's really not. Based off recruiting classes W.Va isn't even in the same neighborhood. We have no business losing to a 7-6 W.Va team.

Probably already mentioned, but WVU has one of the best, if not THE best offenses heading into 2018. I'm as tired of moral victories as anyone, but if we hold them under 35 that's a win for me.

Not when they play a decent to good Defense's. They padded their stats vs horrible Defense's and struggled against the better Defense's they played.

I hear what you're saying, Jason.

But the logic breaks down on scrutiny.

Okay, so our recruiting classes have been ranked significantly better than W Va's over the past five years. Got it. Then again, our recruiting classes have been ranked significantly higher than other teams as well. Teams who beat us last year. And other teams who came dangerously close to beating us. Teams like Vandy and Mizzou, Ga Tech and UMass (yes, UMass, 17-13). Looking at recruiting classes, we should've gone something like 8-4 or 9-3 last year.

There's more going on. More than the "better recruiting classes win 70% of the time" conventional wisdom.

As for pooh-poohing W Va for going 7-6 last year, remember: we went 4-8. We have no room to belittle any team that made it into bowl season.

No, this team is an enigma. New coaching staff, new schemes, new playbook, and a deeply under-performing recent past. What that means is, we can't take anything for granted.

It's a big unknown. 3-9 to 9-3, who knows.

We're all just wishing for the best. Go Vols!

On Thursday April 24th at ten am ESPN classic channel is broadcasting a replay of a 2017 West Virginia vs Oklahoma. It’ll give a good look at some of the players tendencies we’ll see in September.

It works to our advantage to have all this film in them while they have no film on the our new team.

We know what they want to do and can come up with a game plan to beat them. All they can do is guess about what we will be doing.

Both our offense and defense are wild cards.

Sept 1st can't come soon enough.

Let’s just focus on winning One game at a time.
WV has what is being touted as potentially the best offense in the nation for ‘18. Our defense has questions at too many positions.
I honestly believe we have more talent than what was under display with Jones, but Pruitt has his work cut out for him the first couple of years.
If he wins WV, Fl, or GA, it not home field advantage, it’s verification of his ability to lead.
I wish him the very best.
