Sawtelle to miss 2008 season

We already knew about Wilks but Sawtelle sounds worse.

Tennessee head athletic trainer Jason McVeigh reported Monday that football players Rodriquez Wilks and Darris Sawtelle both recently underwent successful surgeries.

Wilks, a freshman wide receiver from Smyrna, Tenn., underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to his left knee Monday. The surgery was performed by Drs. Russell Betcher and Gregory Mathien of Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic. McVeigh expects Wilks to make a full recovery in time for the start of Tennessee's fall drills.

Sawtelle recently underwent successful arthroscopic left-shoulder surgery. He also will undergo surgery to his right shoulder in July and is expected to miss the 2008 season. McVeigh expects the redshirt freshman from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., to return for 2009 Spring practice.

Same here but a shoulder injuries can are never good things when talking about an OL. Hopefully they get it fixed correctly so it doesn't bother him in the future.

I have high hopes for Sawtelle, hope he has a great recovery. I'm guessing he will get a medical redshirt.

He wasn't supposed to see any significant playing time this year anyway. I have high hopes for him and was hoping he would get some reps in, but I guess thats out now.

Very possible, but the NCAA has to approve it and it makes it easier when the boy has never seen a snap.

Is this the same thing that kept Mcneil out for a year? I remember seeing him in that cast after he had it worked on.

Also since he took his academic redshirt he still should qualify for a medical now correct?

With the lack of depth on the o-line, I would think this kid has a chance to make a push for some playing time but, obviously he isn't doing much since Langley is now getting work at guard.

This kid was a beast on his recruiting video a couple of years ago. It was nothing but pancake city. I really hope he rises to the top and provides some depth this year.

Sawtelle has had problems with his shoulders since stepping on campus. Really sucks because he had potential out of HS. With our thin #s at OG, he could be in the two deep almost by default if he can stay healthy.
