4. Tennessee still has some fight: When you get past all the points and yards Tennessee gave up Saturday in its 51-44 loss to Georgia, there was one glaring difference about this game for the Vols. They stood and fought and didn’t wilt even after falling behind by 17 points in the first half. Even more encouraging for Big Orange fans is that the Vols showed some grit, some mental toughness and some courage in the second half. That’s been the knock on Derek Dooley’s teams at Tennessee. They’ve run away and hidden more times than not in the second half -- but not this time against a very talented Georgia football team on the road. Granted, there are serious defensive concerns, and junior quarterback Tyler Bray has to play better in the clutch. But it’s the kind of performance the Vols can build on going forward. They get a bye this coming week, and then comes a trip to Mississippi State on Oct. 13 that will go a long way toward determining where this program is headed and whether or not Dooley is going to be around long term.

Seems pretty spot on to me!

Anyone who doesn't come away with the belief that we're a team on the up after the Georgia game is a delusional troll.

Pretty much sums it up. I hope they coaches preach to the players that they played their hearts out and if they continue to do that the entire game for the rest of the season they'll go to a nice bowl.

I really hate to use the West End slogan, but I felt like this was a "moral victory."

I am thinking we haven't had a moral victory since Alabama in 2008.

Im proud to be a Tennessee Vols fan, and for a few years that hurt to say because of the stigma that had become the norm for us all. Those young men grew up tremendously against Georgia Saturday, that was the number 5 team in the nation, Florida is another good team that we was playing right with them and a couple of blown assignments was the difference. This Vols team is very explosive and with some improvement on the defensive side of the ball which by the way will happen, this team will be sitting back at the head of the table. Dooley is trying to get us there and if your smart you will back him and let him continue building this team. GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you're avatar suggests, you sir are on crazy pills:crazy:

Year three with all the starters on offense especially....no room for moral victories.

Dooley is a guy with all the pieces of an awesome puzzle in front of him....but he just don't seem to have a clue how to put them all together.

Yes, they have been playing together for 3 years and just scored 37 points against one of the best defenses in the country. But defense wins championships scooter, and they aren't all 3 year starters and they are learning a new scheme as well. but I'm sure you already knew that didn't you?

Never seen a defensive scheme that had no outside contain. Fact is our linebackers are not very good. Our defense as a whole isn't very good.

fyp. We actually had two moral victories that year. We morally won the Fla. game too. Recall the week following that game that we lost by 10 and Urban Meyer was making all kinds of excuses for why his team didn't win by more. He was saying some of their key players were sick and Kiffin responded by saying words to the effect that "next time when we underperform then we will say we were sick too".

That was probably the only time I ever felt okay about a loss at UT. Seemed things were on the right track, at the time. Little did I know...

LOL, sometimes I miss Kiffin's responses. Maybe we can hire him to be our PR rep? :)

Well Nancy Drew thanks for the advice. Was not aware we had a new scheme being learned since last season. Is that scheme Rookie Mode on Madden 2012 by chance? Good thing Georgia turned the ball over like they did so we were able to obtain that moral victory. Sarcasm and all....it is about time this team man'd up and played 4 qtrs like they always should....and for that I give them congrats.

awesome, we tried really hard. I don't even tell my 10 and 7 year old that.

I heard somewhere, "if you aren't first, you're last"

To be perfectly frank I heard almost the exact same sentiment after the LSU game in 2010.

We had suffered 2 bad losses (both at home) and barely beat UAB in OT. Then we went to Baton Rouge and gave the Tigers all they could handle.

We lost the next 3 games by a combined 120-48. Forgive my cynicism but I'll wait until after October to see if this team has the gumption to compete in the SEC week-in-week-out.

Moral Victory = Lost the game.

Still bleed orange, but tired of losing. Looking forward to next game.

Exactly, the LSU game gave all of us hope we could compete....then reality set in. I still do not think Dooley is the guy but will reserve any more "Call for his head" language until after October. There were glimpses in this game just like all year, and if they put 4 quarters together we can compete. It just still is to be seen if we will.

Yes, we got smoked last year without Hunter and Bray. No surprises there.

Everyone is healthy so far this year - and we've now got a running game to boot.

It's okay to be alittle optimistic (concerning the offense, at least)
