Ya they had jabs at the military in there (which would have been fixed in my mind if they just made the marines just a private branch of that company) but that was about it. To me it was Dances with Wolves' story, message, and theme but re-skinned with a sci fi setting. And the main reason why I think he went that easy route on the story was to make it predictable for the audience so they could just lose themselves in the world that he created. I loved it for what it was.

Haven't seen it so i can't comment. I usually don't mind the messages.

I do mind the people that take the movie as a cause afterwards though...they are the annoying part.

I've had one or two people go on and on about the depth of the social commentary in the movie and how it is a scathing indictment on our system. Sheeesh people, it's movie.

To be fair, there is a tiny blurb in there as he (the main character) is getting off his transport and says these guys are hired mercenaries and former military guys now working for the company.

Judging by the lack of creativity and imagination with things like the Daisycutter (which had me laughing) I would say the director just got lazy and made them look like marines, you know, why be bothered with details like that.

I guess I've come to expect this from hollywood. Most of them truly loathed W and really the military. When do they ever portray the military as heroic and full of honor (outside of a few exceptions)?

And not take a shot at W when presented the chance?

Sorry didn't clarify: yes mainly the last 8 years. That is when I noticed that hollywood didn't even try sugar coating their left leanings. It's just at this point if there is military in the movie... they seem to be portrayed as such so I've been jaded and not as offended anymore.

Over the history of cinema would be a gross misstatement, if you look back to the 40's and 50's. Of course to many people that was borderline or straight out propaganda but it was definitely favorable.

The fairly recent work Spielberg did with Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers was top notch. Tears of the Sun and Blackhawk Down also come to mind.

But yes, I do get what you're saying though.
