Savannah / Hardin County flooding.

Dang, my family used to have a place on the river about a mile north of the Savannah bridge. It's apparently almost flooded right now and people are trapped in the subdivision.

Tragic, but how do these places get permitted to build in a flood plain?

Money.

Insurance gets you the property on a 100 year flood plain which I am guessing this was.

I wonder if they change the law now and say you can rebuild your house there but it's going to have to be on stilts.

They already are on stilts. The river hasn’t been this high there since sometime in the 1800s.

Most of what you see, especially around the channel, is built upon stilts.

In order to build a permanent house. It has to be like 12 or 14 ft off the ground. A garage type place for campers dont have to be raised. My place is right there by the bridge, by the boat ramp.

We grew up going there as kids. Spent many weekends there while fishing the river. Is there much damage to the botel?

I’m not sure. That video showed that entire area was under water.
