Sark hire would have a LARGE impact on recruiting

Sarkisian looking at all possibilities part of the plan

“My guess is that he is enjoying the NFL life and not dealing with recruiting and has the offseason to spend with his kids,” Booty said. “From a football perspective, I really do not know what he likes better.”

Now that Sarkisian is available, Vols Wire learned Wednesday that the former USC and Washington head coach, and Alabama analyst and offensive coordinator who worked alongside Jeremy Pruitt in 2016, will look for other opportunities in the NFL, but will also entertain college opportunities like Tennessee.
But his heart is in the NCAA!!!!

Fulmers terrible decline was the start of all this mess. That led to Hamilton's ascension to worst AD in history. Kiffin is way down the timeline.

Mark Richt fencing off Georgia was what started our decline. All through the 90s we cherry picked all we wanted from the Atlanta suburbs. His rise meant our decline, outside of legacy guys like Eric Berry.

Richt and then Urban, yes, were the biggest external factors for our decline.

The biggest reason for the decline of the program is internal though. It's one thing to consistently lose to Georgia and Florida when they are good. It's quite another to be 2-5 against Vandy over the last 7 years, and only one of those losses has been close.

Why is it I feel as soon a second Harralson discusses someone as a possibly that we are automatically eliminated from their consideration?

Cheap, inept administration has been the problem.

That is actually quite true. Fulmer's career was made on the ineptitude at the time of LSU, Alabama, Georgia, and all the Carolina schools (even somewhat USC/UCLA and Texas schools). He was able to get players that would normally not be accessible. That made up a huge part of the myth of Fulmer's greatness.

Tennessee is going to have a hard time being really good when Florida, Georgia, and Alabama are all good. During the 90s glory years, Florida was the only other good SEC program. That isn't a coincidence.

What is inexcusable though is having a conference record over the last decade in line with Vandy and Kentucky. That's one thing if you have trouble with Georgia/Florida/Alabama. But that's only 3 games a year.

Concerns:
1 Opposing recruiters use the, He's a drink. You really want your son under a coach that's a drunk."

2. Has he shown any indication he's no longer a walking talking Cutty Sark bottle?

My View on hiring;

We've done worse in the past, take the risk under a contract deeply in our favor and try him out year to year for the first 2-3 years.

Yes, that and towards the end, he just got plain lazy.

It's gonna be sark

I wasn’t sold on Sark until I did some research. His coaching has resulted in significant improvements in EVERY offense he’s taken over in college. He’s a proven commodity. His offense in Atlanta was #15 in 2017 and #11 in 2018. In 2018 Atlanta lost their star RB to a season ending injury in the second game (I believe it was the 2nd).

So sign the guy and let’s get this show on the road. Do I think Sark is the guy UT hires? No. He had the #11 Offense in the NFL and that’s appealing to owners that had offenses #20 and up.

My guess. Osovet will be the new OC with support from Friend.

Lol, I want to see Ed Ogeron use that against us. Why play for a drunk when you can play for a drunk Coke head?

Honestly I think having Sarks past issues is the least important thing as far as negative recruiting. I would probably go with our record against Vandy the past five years OR the fact that we've pissed away highly rated players that likely would've had an NFL opportunity at other places. Before someone argues with that look at Kamara, we criminally mishandled his career.

Pruitt wanted Freeze but Fulmer (most likely big brass) stopped it. I don’t think Briles was an option. It’s been NFL guy for awhile now. Make fun of Matthews but he is probably right (95% done)

First of all, there has never credible information that Pruitt wanted Freeze. There were a bunch of random reports from people who were guessing. Second, there was also never any credible information that Fulmer stopped anything. Furthermore, if the fact that reports were out that at least 3 power 5 schools “wanted” to hire him and he ended up as HC of Liberty doesn’t make you understand there was far more involved with Freeze, I don’t have anything else for you.

One of two things happened there: either Freeze’s agent put all the information out about the power 5 schools really wanting him; or, the Conferences stepped in and squashed the hires. You may not have confidence that UT is willing to make an edgy hire to win (and who can honestly blame you) but I can promise you that Auburn and Florida state would go to any lengths to win.

Well, I was simply repeating what I heard. I dont think Freeze and Malzahn would want to work together. They are very good friends but each would want to run the offense and that wouldnt work. Malzahn appears to be committed to call plays himself in his "win or else" season in 2019. I have no clue what happened w/FSU. I dont think Taggart is a good coach thou and he could be gone very soon also.

To me it looks really bad on Taggart to have the season he had. Jimbo had very good recruiting classes when he was there, so what happened to those players. From the recruiting classes Jimbo had I would not think he left Fla St. without good players being on the team.

The drinking is a non issue.
Has had good offenses in the past. His resume will hold up with the OC at AL & Uga for recruiting. Is well known in ATL and at USC recruiting hot beds.
Way better then anyone we have had in a while. As good as any realistic candidate we have talked about.
I would take kitchens or Chaney over Sark.

Foootball is a team game and coaches are subject to bad years based on the players they have, injuries, luck etc. over the long haul Sark has done a good job.

Honestly, the drinking will always be an issue. It’s not like he’s cured. It’s something that he’ll have to constantly stay on top of. Addicts can fall off the wagon anytime, and that’s something that anyone who hires him will need to take into account.
