I think this roll call may need to be a regular and reoccurring event. I don't think that this thread will be a refuge of coherency and sanity but it will clearly delineate and define the insane and sane Vol fans.
1) Butch cannot and won’t be fired –
a. Economically this is not remotely feasible
b. He has made major improvements to the program
c. Just a year ago the same idiots who wanted him fired were afraid he was off to Michigan
d. Many teams run the same style “garbage” offense that Butch prefers (in fact Saban Almighty switched to something like it from a pro style)
e. Many of the coaches that the deranged Vol fans put forth as Butch’s replacement run similar offenses.
2) Notice that the Vols’ woes coincide with a rash of injuries that no team (not even Bamer) could weather-
a. It is easier to name the players from the original starting 22 who have not been out for injury
b. The number of injuries does not begin tell the whole story… with the exception of Barnett and Dobbs, every impact player has been injured, many for the season
c. In reality we are now playing with more inexperienced players that at any other time in the Butch Jones Era
d. It’s more about the Jimmy’s and the Joe’s than the X’s and the O’s
3) Jalen Hurd is not the Devil (Saban is) and Butch is not running off all our players-
a. Jalen is a typical Millennial brat who cannot be told that he is not the most important thing in the universe
b. Jalen will look back and wish he did things differently
c. Butch if nothing else is dedicated to the Vols and preaches and demonstrates loyalty to the team, his players, staff and UT in general
d. Butch’s approach and attitude is going to repel selfish, weak character individuals who put themselves ahead of the team
e. It is a good thing when elements that are contrary to the team leave, it is healthy
4) Finally, usually the Vols get destroyed in the gauntlet of late Sept – Oct. and eat up the cookies in Nov. This season we did admirably in the gauntlet and dropped the first cookie, I think that is an easier fix and we are in much better shape than we have been in a while.

Let the Roll Call begin:

I don't know if you are right or not.
But, I really hope you are.
Coaching changes suck financially, emotionally, and on many levels for all concerned.
I really want Butch to be the right guy.
But, like many other Vol fans I know, I have serious doubts.

4th year. East title on the line. Coming off a bye week and gets beat by a sorry a** USCjr team. Let that sink in for a sec. Jones hasn't outcoached anyone to this point in his tenure. He's an amateur that's a snake oil salesman. He never talks about anything with substance. It's all clichés and fools gold. He sealed it for me when he said we are about to go to our 3rd bowl game for the first time since 02. Really? He just pulled a Doolittle.

Perspective for our Millennial Generation of Spoiled Rotten Fans: From 1977 to 2008, a 31 year period, the University of Tennessee had TWO football coaches. From 2009 to 2016, a 7 year period, we've had THREE. My point? Transitions are costly, destabilizing, and often only breed more contempt for "rebuilding" a football program. It is much more cost effective to build with what you have, tweak the means of production (offensive, defensive, and special teams schemes), and show some patience and build some stability. Period.

Is this club like the "Procrastinator's Association - meetings postponed until further notice?"

so...when our VOLS win, he doesn't outcoach....Spurrier, Richt, McElwain, et. al.?

but when our VOLS lose, he's outcoached.

Got it.

last week's loss is inexcusable...no doubt, but having trouble with the rest of your logic.

Time to just give up and accept mediocrity...because that is what every other team and fanbase does.

I'll stand with you for the flaming you are about to receive.
Agree with OP.

AV

Me too.

Unhappy; beat down; wondering if I'll ever start watching a game without my heart in my mouth; but sane.

Despite the best efforts of the last decade of UT football.

Vanderbilt has the most stability in the conference. Stability is an acceptance of being mediocre.

OP, I am going to tell you just like I told the "Old Guy" post earlier. If you are going to post stuff that makes good common sense, then you need to go to another message board. We only want knee-jerk reactions, wild guesses and out right rumor mongering on this forum.

Beating a team and outcoaching them are totally different. Outcoaching is where the other team is on their heels and can't figure out all game what you are doing or don't have an answer because you are dictating and controlling the game. That's the gist. Played sports much?

You don't think he outcoached yellow teeth of UF??? If the roles had been reversed I bet you would say Butch got outcoached. We ran off 35 straight points, and they didn't get a first down in the second half till late in the 4th quarter. That was total domination, I am not saying the staff hasn't made bad decisions. But too say when they lose it's coaching and when they win it's total luck is not nearly correct. GBO!!!!!

Am good with most of list except that some of us fans being "idiots" has direct correlation between what we're seeing on the field and our opinions. Young players playing doesn't hold water on turnovers and penalties...we were younger for the past three years, and these were strengths. Was at SC game, and didn't pass they "eye test" for gameplan...conservative until it's urgency time. Urgency time needs to start on first possession. Guess will find out soon enough

nah...frail, clumsy, timid, always picked last...I'm just a wuss.

but, if that's the explanation...then I now see how seering your logic actually is....thanks.

4th year here, only 3 recruiting classes thats his.

OP is spot on with everything they listed. There's not a snowball chance in h*ll the AD department has the money for a coaches turnover again this year or next year.
