Just heard Jimmy Hyams today on the drive home and a caller asked him who would be the top 5 candidates if Fulmer is fired. I swear, most of these guys in Knoxville must get their talking points from the same spin machine.

He said the samething that 90% of the other media guys in this town say anytime they are confronted with this question...

"I do not feel it is appropriate to speculate about a possible opening with the Tennessee football coach's position because Tennessee currently has Phillip Fulmer in place. I do not feel that it is respectful and I am not inclined to speak on this subject until such decision is made... blah blah blah"

What is the harm in just throwing out a few names just for the sake of argument? Not that I think that Hyams would have any inside scoop or info about a possible hire, but just the principle about the whole thing. Last week, I heard the guys in Nashville (104.5) talking up a storm about it... and I'm sure the talk is the same in Chattanooga and elsewhere across the state. But for whatever reason, these guys want to hold off on the discussion.

The sports radio in Knoxville is worse than what is portrayed on this message board. You really have to hear it to understand how horrible it is.

I know the real answer, but it is just sad. These guys are tied to the hip to this program and willingly eat the crumbs that are thrown at them, while this regime over there gives them the mushroom treatment.

Closed off practices, coach doesn't even show up in public for Vol Calls (much less take real flak from callers) and a group of local media guys that either run interference for the program or throw out softballs.

He said on F'baum last week that he's finally getting serious support on his fire Phil campaign

That stupid show in the morning, "Doc, Jeff & Heather" is disgustingly in the tank for Fulmer. The Monday after the UF loss, those 3 tried as hard as they could to talk about everything but the UF game. They also limit the callers to as few as possible. I refuse to listen to the show it is so bad.

Knoxville media is awful, but the 6-10 AM slot may be the worst in the history of sports talk. It's a 4 hour session pimping out the entire women's basketball team and a 4 hour butt kissing session to the university of Tennessee.

Edit: Just read AllVol123's post. He pretty much covered what I think about the morning show.

How obvious was it that this week's vol calls was screened to be mostly pro-Fulmer?

You're right. Living in Nashville for 5 years where there is a lack of Vols coverage, I was really craving it when I got here. Their show is so bad I'd rather hear nothing about the Vols than to have to listen to them to learn anything about the Vols.

And yet, for some reason, they don't want to talk about Bruce Pearl and the men's basketball team. Crazy...

Start with the caller at the 11:20 mark and listen to the rest of that train wreck. This is what I listened to this morning on my way out and about at work...

Yea, we know that Knoxville's sports talk radio sucks, but it puts me to sleep during the day.

It's true. I've never seen anything like it.

That show has no credibility. I've been around Jeff before unfortunately. He is a big weasel. He's all about a buck. He will say or do anything to make it. He's a huge back stabber.

The other 2 are worse than him.

Heather comes off as a hick and Micky comes off as the stupidest person alive.

But yea, he is bad too.

560 AM in Nashville has an afternoon drive show with Bill King and Joe Biddle.... It's mainly 3 hours of UT talk... It's pretty brutal and honest and you get, almost, a daily dose of small mike - whether you love him or hate him.... You should check out their site, you can stream it live.... Just for an alternative from that drivel on WNML

Nashville's SportsRadio 560 WNSR

Don't get me started on Knoxville media. What's worse is that you can tell it is spoken down on these host. Someone at Sports Animal is telling them that is what they should say to callers.

When Pennington gets asked that question, he gives the same answer, but always ends it with a sarcastic tale of the situation of what's going on at UT, basically saying he wants Fulmer fired but not all out saying it. You can tell Pennington wants to rap with the fuzz on that one.

It's awful that a media company can have a host by thier balls like that. It's, like Rasputin said, "Sad".

Doozer is right Jacoby has the personality of a pet rock and it comes through the air waves unlike him, loud and clear.

Heather, I can deal with. She busts chops until Mickey holds her paycheck up in the air if she digs into a subject she knows she's busted his balls on. Which is almost everything except baseball.

Again, for the sweet love of everything Holy, Will West and Heather would make a fine morning show. Just them two. Mickey and Jacoby can go talk about what they used to do while their smacking around a golf ball or something. Talk Show Sports Radio is No Place For Old Men.

Once there is a new staff in place I think we will begin to hear stories from various Knoxville media personalities about how they were threatened with loss of access to information and professional reprisals if they did not tow the party line. That kind of thing should not happen at a public institution. I've been listening to Basilio on the www the past couple of weeks. He's stuck his neck out there but I would not be surprised if he's off the air in a few months should Phillip weather the storm. Fortunately, the Nashville media was long ago freed from this garbage with the arrival of pro sports. I hear Hyams, Hubbs and others say things on their Nashville radio spots that I doubt you would ever hear them say on Knoxville radio. Bill King's show is sometimes fun for a change of pace but it's basically the opposite of Vol calls where you don't have to have much reasoning behind your opinion if you are against Fulmer.

Mickey Dearstone might very well be the biggest d-bag on radio in Knoxville. No, no.......that would be Joey Tack on Hot 104.5(crap-hop station)
