Same old story for Tennessee

It was certainly a win UT "had" to have. How much of a quality win it was is irrelevant. As you said, it was a win over a team that had beaten us 5 straight years.

As I mentioned in a thread from a few weeks ago, any win against UF, UGA, Bama, Auburn, LSU is a "quality" win and doesn't need justifying.

Wow. I just gave you a 'like'.... There is a first time for everything, I guess. :)

Not so much about the wins, but the way we played in some of losses. To be up a point at Bama in the 4th quarter means you have a DANG GOOD TEAM and good coaches as well.

Yes, we have had very disappointing losses, but we have a chance to finish 9-4 this year. If we do, it will be our best season since 2007, and remarkably better than any of the following years. Kiffin and Dooley decimated our program, but we are turning it around.

Just remember...If you stood at the doorway handing out $100 bills, somebody will complain you didn't give them two $50s.

Truer words have never been spoken. When I worked in a small restaurant, we gave out a free glass of wine on the anniversary of the restaurant opening. I had one table in which only 2 of the 6 people drank. The two that got a free glass of wine were PISSED that we wouldn't let them drank the wine of the 4 non-drinkers. People never cease to amaze me. Give them something unexpected and free and they throw a fit because they cannot have more free stuff.

Yes but this team was capable of more and have been limited by their coach.

Injury's hurt this team. I think losing Maggitt probably cost us two games. A single stop against OU and UF would have won those games. Everyone mentions Chubb's loss - We too have suffered in that category.

If Butch Jones could coach as well as he can recruit the Vols would have won the SEC east this year, no?

There's no way in heck one can make that leap. He's could just have easily stayed aggressive and turned the ball over in any of those games. Dobbs could have thrown a pick six. Who knows.

Hindsight criticism makes for good forum fodder, but it's simply and only speculation.

BTW, I am not defending the guy. I personally can deal with the turnovers more than the conservative play. But, that doesn't mean it would have worked. But, turnovers make it easier to blame the players, and most don't seem to like that.

SEC titles at UT are hard to come by (5 in roughly 40 years). I've said from day one I don't think Butch can win the NC here. I think there are only a handful of coaches that could.

However, he's the best coach since Phil was in his prime. Like him or not, I think he'll be here a while.

At least were rebuilding and moving on from the Great Orange Depression (AKA the reign of Hamilton).

Actually I would take Phil's last 5 years over Butch right now.

If you're that embarrassed to be a fan, then maybe it's time to pick a new team to follow.

Great post. This has to be a fan that worries about the water cooler at work and he has to explain why his team lost or didn't beat the other team by 50. <----Shakes Head!

That hurts some but next year is the year we find out if CBJ is SEC ready. The bar goes from 8 to 10. That should include a win over one notable.

Do vol fans realize we haven't won an sec or national title this century? Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Lsu have all won sec titles since us. We've lost to Bama and Florida for a decade straight. Everybody keeps talking about progress the last 3 years.. What have we even accomplished the last 15 years? Besides leading the country in excuses and hyped up off seasons. Being a true fan doesn't mean you have to lie and talk about Tennessee like we're world beaters. Sometimes you have to be honest and tell it like it is.

Georgia is going to win 9, maybe 10 games with their losses coming to two teams in the hunt for the playoff and us. I don't care how miserable you want me to be, that's a quality win.

Living here I agree. My kids are loving life after having to deal with the prior five years.

This offense is by definition....Handcuffed, and the coaches aren't doing anything to fix it. The biggest joke of all is Debord as OC and Z as passing coordinator? For what purpose? Nothing changes, ever!

In your opinion, if next year we find out "CBJ is not SEC ready" would you be in favor of CBJ continuing up the learning curve or starting over at year 0?:popcorn:

I could go either way but would probably lean toward cutting bait.........

Anyone who thinks this season is "the same" as consecutive 5-7 seasons is either high or drunk. :hi:

A big part of the reason we are here is people like the OP getting Hamilton to run off Fulmer in the way he did.

Not sure I've ever seen a post with 56 likes when only 60 people have viewed the thread. Well said!

Thanks. I get being critical (to a point) sure the last two games could've probably been played and coached better. But we won. Sure the season could've gone a lot different with a few breaks here or there. But it hasn't. We've been in each game that we've lost till the final play. And there's plenty of blame to throw around, if one wants. But to ever be embarrassed to be a fan, that to me is something I'll never understand.

I'm a huge tn fan and have been all my life and still am. Doesn't mean I can't be honest and tell the truth. I'll be ecstatic when we return to prominence but I've been waiting on that for 15 years. Just tired of the excuses from our fan base. It's getting old.

People like you who b!tch a moan and want major changes every couple of years is what keeps a program circling the toilet bowl. Coach Jones is making progress and you and the rest of the instant gratification society will probably never understand that. And for that, I pity you...

Coach jones is making progress and he's the right guy for the job. That has nothing to do with us not winning an sec title in almost 20 years and the excuses our fan base makes year in and year out. If waiting 17 years for an sec title qualifies as instant gratification you got me. Lol
