Had they waited for just 3 more weeks - which very likely would have happened with their next games being Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Auburn - they’d have only had to pay him $6 million in buyout.
They negotiated down to around 7.5 to split the difference. In return Arkansas eliminated the “duty to mitigate” clause of his contract which requires him to actively seek employment. It was a nice gesture from Pittman since he definitely didn’t have to do that.

This is what a clean breakup look like. Glad they worked with old Sam.. Still sucks for the players who would have wanted to use their redshirt year to transfer.
