They negotiated down to around 7.5 to split the difference. In return Arkansas eliminated the “duty to mitigate” clause of his contract which requires him to actively seek employment. It was a nice gesture from Pittman since he definitely didn’t have to do that.And because he was still .500 or above since 2021, they had to pay him about $10 million in buyout.
Had they waited for just 3 more weeks - which very likely would have happened with their next games being Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Auburn - they’d have only had to pay him $6 million in buyout.
