Sam Old Vandy

I agree, I can't bring myself to hate Vandy the way I do Florida, Bama and UGA and Pavia love him or hate him deserves an invite to New York

I normally feel that way but with the media fawning over them and Pavia's big yapper I despise them this year as much as any of our rivals. This win will feel just as good to me as beating Alabama if we get it done.

Since there doesn't seem to be a recording or even a complete first hand account of George Cafego's famous hatred, I used ChatGPT to take all the known quotes and simulate what it might have been like.

“You boys listen close. This one ain’t about charts or plays. This one’s about them. Vanderbilt. They’re gonna come in here with their fancy little degrees and their noses so high they forget the football is on the ground. They think we’re supposed to bow to ’em because somebody told them they’re the smart ones. I’ve met plenty of smart men. None of ’em wore black and gold.

You hit a Vanderbilt man and he folds like a porch chair in August. You hit him again, and he’ll wonder why he ever signed up to play Tennessee. You keep hittin’ him, and he’ll remember this day every time he looks at his breakfast for the rest of his life.

Losing to Alabama is a bad Saturday. Losing to Vanderbilt is a crime against nature. They beat us back in ’35 and ’37, and I still feel that sting in my teeth. I don’t care if we go winless from here to Christmas morning — you beat Vanderbilt and you hold your head high in this state.

They’re gonna talk about how they’re the ‘Harvard of the South.’ Fine. Then you go out there and give ’em a physics lesson on force and momentum. You show ’em what happens when a body in motion meets a Commodore standing still.

Put ’em in the dirt. Make their alumni rethink their investments. Make their band pack up early. Make their coaches wonder if the bus is still parked where they left it.

Now let’s go ruin a Saturday in Nashville.”

I'm sure it pales to the true experience, but it still gave me a chill. Wish he had been recorded.
You, sir, receive the George Cafego Award for Excellence in Journalism. A true 'Vol Bard'.

Did we ever think if we beat Vandy, that would be our best win for the season? That's were we are this year...

My biggest fear is of course Diego. Mobile quarterbacks have often been Tennessee’s Kryptonite.
Still, I am optimistic
Yep. We can’t let him have a 100 yd rushing day or it will be a dog fight. We have to hit him often. If we force him to throw for 350 to win I like our chances.

Vandy fans will not travel. They have better things to do. Like enjoying wood fired shrimp covered in wasabi sea salt followed by a Wagyu Tomahawk rib eye steak at the Bourbon Steak located at the lavished JW Marriott.

What's wrong with that? That sounds pretty damn good! I'd eat that and watch the Vols. Sounds like a win win!

No part of me thinks we lose to Vandy.
I hope you're right. Although none of our fans thought we'd lose to Oklahoma either. With our **** defense, every part of me says we have a great shot at losing. Luckily it's a home, which helps our chances. Although we've already lost 2 at home this year.

“A great shot at losing” to Vandy. This will be interesting to revisit

there is literally not any part of me that thinks those fools win Saturday
I have no clue who is going to win.

Im positive nothing I say here or irl will have an affect on it either way.

People getting their panties in a wad because Tennessee fans are talking trash about Vanderbilt on a Tennessee message board before the biggest game in the history of them playing each other is just weird. Lol.

Well stated, indeed. I haven't seen verbatim, primary-source text for his commentary on this topic, either, but I dare say that they probably resembled Appalachian-tainted, Churchillian calls to arms. However, I would beg to differ on one point. "Losing to Vanderbilt [isn't simply] a crime against nature." It's an abomination, a violation of divine order.

Above all else, we need Joey to come out red-hot, like he did against Georgia and Florida. 14-17 points and 150 yards of total offense in the first quarter, which is just about what we have averaged for that stanza, which leads the nation in both stats, is the perfect prescription.
