Salary of the next coach

What I am wondering. If right now people complain about the salary Fulmer gets, which is 7th in the SEC. What is going to be said about the next guy, who IMO, UT will need to pay $3 million. The crowd is going to be even harder on the next guy.

He is going to be expected to win from day 1. It is expected here.

Fulmer has set the bar high at UT! Anything less than 10 wins is considered a bad season here

I think this fan base has been more than reasonable. Mike Hamilton is the one who laid out the clear expectations for the program.

UT fans will expect a competitive product, but I expect some degree of patience.

We are clearly have to open the coffers to get the right guy.

Agreed. I don't see any other SEC team NOT pulling the trigger several years ago.

Hey Bugs Bunny Hamilton Fire Elmer Fudd and Hire us a Yosemite Sam this program is a joke and is like watching cartoon characters run the program.

$3 Million?! Yeah right...maybe 5 years ago...the Satanic Bammers have made $3 million a joke...We will cough up between $4-$5 million to secure the services of one of the big boys-Gruden, Cowher, Davis, etc. Even somebody like Leach or Kelly would probably get at least $3.5-$4 million. Salaries are getting like Fulmer's gameplan...utterly ridiculous.

If Mike Hamiltion goes after someone like Muschamp (no head coaching exp), 2.5 - 3 million will work, but if he goes after a big dog like Gruden or Cower, 5 million would be required.

Exactly my point...only way it's $3 million is if he hires someone who has never been a headcoach.

While I want a 10+ win season, I'm fine with fewer as long as we are competitive.

However, if the next guy comes in and we have losing seasons, that is a different story.

The economic climate has changed tremendously. You wont get a Gruden or someone else with a paltry $5 mill a year. Fisher makes 6 mill, and to keep any nfl team from going over the top on you, you have to offer at least 7 for a top flight guy to drop everything and go to the college ranks/move their family/change their life.

And why not? You have a giant windfall in tv money coming in perpetually ($13-15 million!), Hamilton has a rainy day fund of about $7 mill to buy out a coaching staff, and anyone would listen when you start talking those numbers. Florida has $25 million a year coming in (ESPN money and $10 mill a year from Sunshine for the next TEN years). You have to do something with a splash, and keep those guys from outspending you.

If the bar is so high,why is Fulmer still around?
