Jumper, 6-2, 229, was originally signed by New Orleans as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Tennessee in 2018 and in that preseason posted five tackles, one special teams stop and a blocked punt. Jumper was a two-year starter at linebacker at Tennessee, opening seven games apiece in both 2016 and 2017. Jumper played in all 12 games with seven starts in 2017 and posted 55 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and one pass defensed. The Lookout Mountain, Tenn. native enjoyed a breakout campaign as a junior in 2016, opening seven games, six in the middle, where he finished fourth on the team with 61 tackles with four tackles for loss, an interception, a forced fumble and four passes defensed.

So you're saying the Falcons run game against the Saints has a chance?

Just joking, happy for Jumper. Congrats & good luck.

As a Baylor grad and a Vol myself, I can only say how happy I am for him. Sad he didnt have better coaching while he was here but glad he is getting his shot.

I see it the other way around. He benefited from our coaches not recruiting effectively and got a chance to play. Didn’t have all the stars but had heart, and that drives some players.

Some players have all the stars and want the red carpet. He frustrated me at times but it wasn’t his fault, I hope he makes some 💰.

Always happy to see former vols get a shot at the next level.

With that said Colton probably frustrated me more than any other vol in recent memory.

Took the kid 20 starts at middle linebacker before he registered his first sack.

Started 12 games at MLB his senior season and only finished the year with 25 solo tackles.

Jumper is the nephew of UT starting guard Tom Jumper 1950-1952. Tom Jumper tore up a knee after 6 games, but still make some achievements as a starter in his 2nd year (seems he was either all SEC or second team with only 6 games.). Got over the knee, came back in 1951 and tore up the knee again that finished his career. I believe Tom Jumper was replaced by John Michaels who went on to make All American and serve as an NFL assistant coach for some 20 years. Jumpers father and another brother played for UTC....so Jumper has a football background.

Tom also owned a very successful car delership in Atlanta for many many years. My youngest son bought his first can from Tom about 18 years ago.

And yet a NFL team thinks he's good enough to play professionally. So maybe a lot of his shortcomings were caused by the angry idiot Lyle Jones.

I'm happy for the young man but everybody need not get carried away. The NFL needs practice players, walk ons, and tackling dummies like most all football teams do.

.....also led the team in both sacks and tackles for loss. Kid got way, way too much ish from the fan base during his time at Tennessee imho.

I will say I did not see this coming. I was never a fan of Colton Jumper and wished for him to be replaced while he was playing at TN, he just looked a step slow. It just goes to show that talent does not always show up without good coaching. Glad he made the NFL.

Butch had a roster so deep that Kamara couldn't even start. We may never see talent like that again #BSIA

Whoa, hang on. Since 2013 we've had 3 years where we had literally nobody drafted off our team '15, '16 & '19. (Hurd could count retroactively) We've had a grand total of 3 first rounders over that time. In fact for that span we've had 8, eight, selected in the first 3 rounds directly off our team, since 2013.

I say that to say this...I expect us to do MUCH better than that in the near future.

I wasn't a fan either.. but he won me over. He made some pretty good plays along the way... I can't remember which game, but he got his hand in on a pass that was a sure score and knocked the ball away. All the while taking a beating on social media. Folks saying his Dad's contributions to UT got him a starting slot. And, porous as that defense was, it seemed to explain some things, it wasn't all his fault, yet he was an easy target. This was also during a time when Butch Jones incompetence was still in the process of being revealed. Just like with Jumper, some were slow to catch on about Jones as well.

Yes he was a step slow. I won't mention any names, but we had some 5* kids that were a step slow for other reasons, i.e. lack of hustle.
Colton was bright enough to be able know his position and line up correctly and get other players in the right position. I'm happy for this young man. He continues to prove the naysayers wrong.

Once it got out that his dad was supposedly pumping money in for him to start he was screwed as far as fan perception goes. Even if he hadve been good.
