The D looked better against SM than they did against Cal. Hopefully they look better against Fla than they did against SM.

One note on that play: I understand the rule to be that an illegal kick on the 4-yard line gives the other team the choice of the safety or the ball at the 4 (or half the distance at the 2...not sure). But, if the illegal kick is in the endzone, it's a safety. I think that makes no sense. I think an illegal kick in the endzone should be like pass interference in the endzone (both illegal acts prevent a TD), and we should have had the option of taking the ball at the 2. Thoughts?

Yeah..but if he had fallen on it, it would have been a safety, so he didn't necessarily cost us a touchdown...it is weird though..I would think that the rule should give the opposing team the option of getting possession at the 2.

Are you saying UT should have gotten the ball at the 2? If so you can't give the defense possession of the ball.

And if you're saying that UT should have let USM have the ball at the 2 then that's stupid to take points off the board.

Yeah..it sounded like if he had kicked it when he wasn't in the endzone (and it went through the endzone)...that they would have a loss of down, but would get the ball where he kicked it...I've got big problems with that. Now, if it is he kicks it out of bounds at the 2 or something, then I can see them keeping possession but losing a down....it would still suck though.

I was a little confused as to what the result would have been...

Remember the 1998 Arkansas game? When the Arky player kicked the ball through the endzone, and they gave us a safety, when they should have given us the option of taking the ball at the spot? What I am saying is that if that happens in the endzone, the defense should be able to take the ball at the 2. The reason is to be consistent. Why allow players to avoid giving up a TD when they are in the endzone by kicking it for a safety, but if they do the same thing in the field of play, the defense can take the ball at the spot in lieu of a safety? Also, I didn't actually see the USM play. I only heard it on the radio. The player committing the illegal kick is being given exactly what he wants if he's in the endzone---a safety---so why even bother with the penalty flag?

Well... It gave us 2 points and the ball back to us. So there is a chance of making 9 instead of 7 because of the safety.

The Arkansas kick was on fourth down. There was a loss of down at the spot, which is why we should have gained possession there. This game the kick was on third down, so loss of down would result in fourth down.

I am sure everyone has there own special gator hater, here's mine from indiana

tall glass, crushed ice, fill half with apple cider, throw in a very healthy shot or two of Jack Daniels, pull down the mason jar on top of beer fridge, pop open the Tennessee moonshine, and pour a tablespoon or two in on top, slice of Big Orange or a little sprite to bring all to the top. Drink it, sing Rocky Top and cheer your ass off for the Vols, while damning Urban/Steve,Zook or whoever lines up on the opposite side of the field (that is the hater part) Go Vols !!!

I was at the game, D-fence looked a little shaky first quarter or so, especially #31, not sure the name, but he was getting burnt on just about every pass play. I believe one of those was a td. Hopefully this will be corrected this week.
