One note on that play: I understand the rule to be that an illegal kick on the 4-yard line gives the other team the choice of the safety or the ball at the 4 (or half the distance at the 2...not sure). But, if the illegal kick is in the endzone, it's a safety. I think that makes no sense. I think an illegal kick in the endzone should be like pass interference in the endzone (both illegal acts prevent a TD), and we should have had the option of taking the ball at the 2. Thoughts?

Are you saying UT should have gotten the ball at the 2? If so you can't give the defense possession of the ball.
And if you're saying that UT should have let USM have the ball at the 2 then that's stupid to take points off the board.
Yeah..but if he had fallen on it, it would have been a safety, so he didn't necessarily cost us a touchdown...it is weird though..I would think that the rule should give the opposing team the option of getting possession at the 2.
Remember the 1998 Arkansas game? When the Arky player kicked the ball through the endzone, and they gave us a safety, when they should have given us the option of taking the ball at the spot? What I am saying is that if that happens in the endzone, the defense should be able to take the ball at the 2. The reason is to be consistent. Why allow players to avoid giving up a TD when they are in the endzone by kicking it for a safety, but if they do the same thing in the field of play, the defense can take the ball at the spot in lieu of a safety? Also, I didn't actually see the USM play. I only heard it on the radio. The player committing the illegal kick is being given exactly what he wants if he's in the endzone---a safety---so why even bother with the penalty flag?
Who hit the USM quarterback and forced the safety? To anyone who watched the game how was our D? Did we look good or was USM justnot playing very good? Cant wait till this weekend I am going to throw a party and serve up gater hater shots. GO VOLS!!!
Sounds good what exactly is in a gater hater?
I was at the game, D-fence looked a little shaky first quarter or so, especially #31, not sure the name, but he was getting burnt on just about every pass play. I believe one of those was a td. Hopefully this will be corrected this week.
