I was out of town and had not heard; Only just this morning----About John Ward's Passing. I feel as though I've lost a very close Family Member. John Ward was simply the greatest ever, and He Made Tennessee Football so real for us fans Back in the day when there was only one College Game Televised on Saturdays. John Ward was so much a part of my life and every Vol Fan's life; he was our connection to The Big Orange. He was simply Magnificent, and even taught us Hillbillies how to enunciate properly. Today, John Ward; You are missed more than you could imagine. Tears Fall Freely as I wish you GODSPEED My Friend. I will be listening to the many tapes I recorded of your wonderful voice calling UT Games; but I have to get through the enormous sadness Before I can handle that. Love Love You John Ward.

You are not alone. The outpouring of respect for this man has been enormous. We were lucky to have him.

John Ward was like an uncle we all wished we had. His persona made him that beloved. He made it so much more than just listening to a game on Saturday. Magnificent. You nailed it, JWF.

His brother Bob lives in Charlotte and I was able to express my condolences to him directly last week. I grew up listening to John during the Ernie and Bernie years and have so many memories with my Dad and Grandfather listening to the radio and the picture he painted. He was truly one of a kind.

He was one of my favorite things about UT football, and I don’t know I will ever be able to get over the loss of such an incredible human or talent.

The man could describe in words through radio, a mental image so detailed, you could see the game in your minds eye. That kind of journalistic talent joined to radio broadcasting is rare, as we now know.

For those who came along after the ESPN or Jefferson-Pilot SEC games of the week...you missed out!

This man could bring to life on air what most struggle to do on tv today! Truely a gift for those of us fortunate enough to experience him...
