Sad Day for Powell Football

The coaching was great and so was the effort. I have no problem giving credit when credit is due. This is the first game this year where we played great and beat a really good team. This is also the best the defense has played all year and slowed down a very good AC team.

Of course our talent is down, but that hasn't been our only problem this year.

Since we fired the offensive coordinator, our offense has definitely looked better. I would think since the head coach fired the OC, there must have been a problem on that side of the ball.

12 straight years of playoffs comes to an end. How in the heck do you take a team like this and miss the playoffs? These kids deserve knowledgeable coaches.

I would totally agree if everyone stayed healthy. When you have to start your 3rd string QB and are 8-9 deep in WRs playing things like this happen.

I think Kilgore can get it turned around, but it looks like they definitely don't have the talent they have had over the last several years.

If you watched the AC vs Powell game you saw what this team could have been.

I don't think you can put this season and the way it ended totally on the coach.

I was half joking. We were fully healthy when we got beat by a very mediocre Central team, but as you said, we looked great against AC and nearly beat CC with a depleted team. We also had OR beat before losing at the end.

I definitely saw improvement throughout the year. However, this staff is not up par with last year's staff and definitely not up to par when Lowe was here. Can they get there, maybe, only time will tell.

Just to be clear, when you say turn it around, you do realize the program was in great shape when he took it over. It only needs to be turned around because of this season...

Regarding talent, no doubt we were down this year but not as bad as everyone might think.

Next year is going to be a rough year because we are losing a lot of talent and starters. The o-line is the only area where we had any significant underclassmen starting.

I am guessing it was not the coaching that helped Powell beat AC correct? Haven't seen you post anything about that game.

Powell's talent overall is down compared to the last several years. All I have seen you do is ***** about coaching.... If I am guessing you are just pissed because your kid is not getting the playing time you think he deserves.

No, Coaching is a big issue. The injuries hurt without a doubt, but the talent on this team made the coaching look better than it was more times than not. Got some good people coaching, just young, new and cutting their teeth. First year Head Coach is over. If I see Powell trying to run the ball over and over with nine in the box next year...well, it's time to get new staff. If I see run plays being called when there is no safety back time and again...well it's time to get new staff. They also may be the first coaching staff in these kids entire football careers since age 6 that do not have them tackle during practice. None, nada, nothing all week. Incredible.

Its interesting yall mentioned that Kilgore dosent have the team hit in practice. At Central, Hassell didnt have our kids hit either and hmmmmm....... Kilgore did come from Hassell's staff. I see a connection of bad coaching there. Are we sending the message to the kids of today to be afraid to hit because of risk of injury? Tackling drills ARE NECESSARY IN PRACTICE AND FOOTBALL!

Quite frankly I think you are spot on and I agree 100%. I remember Fulmer's last year he was not having full contact practices. We all seen the results. Once he knew his ass was on the line he kicked it up a notch and you could see it in his team.

I also noticed a lack of intensity in practice that was there in previous years. Lowe demanded discpline, hustle and effort and held the kids accountable. He was tough and subsequently, the Powell teams played that way.
