Saban takes a swipe at Kiffin and Fulmer

It's well known Hambone wouldn't write the check for Fulmer's first choice. It's actually made ridiculous by what Hambone paid for "his guy" Monte Kiffin. It's well known a lot of coaches decided for a massive pay cut to stay put rather than come to Tennessee. It's Hambone straight up and down. Only the ideologically blinded could assume otherwise.

(Les Miles might have been on the sideline, but it was Saban's team.)

It's so well-known you didn't know about it until Vegas Vol (the guy claiming our class ranking rose between Kiffin and Dooley) mentioned it here and no one else supported it.

A lot of guys chose to avoid screwing their teams over even worse than Kiffin did. Nothing more.

You're so right. I mean, there's no way the Michigan OC would let an NC-winning coach get fired. And I'm sure that guy was so well thought of in the "coaching fraternity" that he'd find a really respectable job somewhere. And clearly the guy we "settled for" was a bum. No way anyone would offer him a job.

I certainly didn't mind Fulmer's second choice, and I believe the results would have been clear in Year Two.

Of course, we can thank Hambone for that as well.

Regardless, the coaching fraternity knows all about Hambone. It saves Hambone time; he doesn't have to interview because it's "No thank you" right out of the gate.

Coaching fraternity talk from a dyed in shorthairs Fulmer fellater is as ironic as humanly possible.

It did rise.

The majority of performers on Saturday are Dooley + Fulmer recruits right now. It's staggering given Kiffin, actually, had more time and work in both classes than either.

As I've said from the beginning, at best Kiff was Fulmer-average. He's shocking.

Loved your "Russians had no center" line in the other thread.

I get what's what, and I know David Palmer happens.

It was clearly about Kiffin and Hamilton; Saban even went out of his way to defend Fulmer (much as he is now doing with Dooley) back in 2008. So quit pretending Saban agrees with the lunatic portion of the Tennessee fan base.

From the press at the time:
Saban defended Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer, who is under fire in Knoxville after starting the season 3-4. (Props to B'Ham News columnist Kevin Scarbinsky for posing the question to Saban about Fulmer's future) ...
"It's not my position to make those kinds of decisions," Saban said. "Every institution has administrators and people that make those decisions, and I'm not trying to influence those decisions. But as a coach, and loyalty to my colleagues, to me, Phillip Fulmer has been a good coach for a long time. He's done a lot of good things for the University of Tennessee. They've had a good program for a long, long time. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him as a coach and what he's done and what he's accomplished through the years. Saying all that, I think the guy's a really good coach."

It's well known by anyone familiar with how things progressed during that time period, and no big secret, except to the internet kiddies who can't even read a Saban quote correctly or in context.

Thankee. :hi:

It's too bad real data and the real world will roll like water off a duck's back with the GoF.

A great coach in saban's mind is one who continues to be trounced by ala, and of course he see no reason that these coaches should not be kept forever.

Just in time to see the GoF + acolytes get it wrong again.

No one saw that coming......

Perhaps another poll is in order.

Was Saban referring to Hamilton when he said the program had been mismanaged for "several years", or was he referring to Fulmer?

I'm on pins and needles. This one's going to be a nail biter.

The minority on the other poll look smarter every single game played. As I said they would long ago.

Are they being put in the right places? (Dooley and his staff) are doing the right things.

That's certainly debatable. I can think of a handful of situations right off the top of my head where at least 1 or 2 guys were either on or off the field when they should have been.

how has Hamilton mismanaged the football program for several years? Only thing I can think of is that he let Fulmer continue for too long so either way the title is correct.

Actually no the players we have are not being put in the right places, or at least too many players are being put into the same place.

Right. It's not as if we have quotes from Clawson, Fulmer, other assistant coaches, and players that no one was buying into the Clawfense.

Saban was asked directly about Phil's future. What is he supposed to say? "Dude sucks and they ought to fire him?" This is just what coaches say.

So who was the mystery #1 OC candidate since you're so in the know?

This marks the 20th time I've asked you.

Hamilton's fault.

Pretty sure Hamilton influence Saban to say "several years" when really he meant "everything was absolutely perfect save 2008 and 2009 and none of that was in any way related to my liege, Phil Fulmer."

Kffin was on his way to a top 5 class. He lost to Alabama by a blocked field goal. Not sure when I've heard a top level coach refer to the AD when talking about another team. Fulmer was the manager of the team, not Hamilton. The blinders are on again.
