Saban started 7-6

I still say 7-5. We have the makings of a good offense. Helton needs to improve playcalling and the d needs to step up.

Disappointing loss, but our team played hard for most of the game. The mentality and discipline in Pruitt's team is very evident compared to Lyle's team.
Pruitt is the right guy and he's doing good things with subpar talent.
Saban only went 7-6 his first year so let's give Pruitt his chance too.
We WILL upset some teams this year and don't be surprised if WV is in the CFP this year.

Go Vols!
Pruitt about to start 3-9 imo.

No way. We’re atrocious on both lines of scrimmage. Unless some of the younger DTs and DEs very, very quickly and damn near magically prove to be really good out of nowhere, this is a 3 or 4 win team.

Like I said if the d steps up. I think they will.

We will also only see an offense this good two or three more times this year and not until UGA.

Lulz. The inaugural thread for every new UT coach. This topic rises from the dead better than Lazarus.
Yeah, but does it happen after the first game of the year?

As usual, there’s a boatload of people on here who talk each other into believing we are a lot farther along than we are before we have played a game. And our first game is never a cupcake like a lot of programs do.
WV is a good team and Grier is definitely a Sunday qb. He had big, physical, experienced receivers going against our freshman secondary, who are playing because of lack of development/talent of previous staff and their recruits. We weren’t going to hold them under 30. The last touchdown was meaningless. Our defense will get better as the year goes on.
Our offense was miles better than last year. We actually have a downfield passing game. We converted at least 3 3rd and longs in obvious passing situations. We started breaking longer runs as the game went on. Helton’s playcalling was more innovative than anything I ever saw out of Butch. We looked like a real football team instead of a bunch of finesse fairies trying to fool the defense. I think we were a little too run heavy when it wasn’t really working yet while the passing game was. We wasted a few drives that way. The OL settled down after the first few series.
We are going to win the next two and the last four. We have a good shot against Florida at home. That’s 6 or 7. Which is probably right about where we should be. And this is coming from someone who is pretty guarded about getting hopes up because we’ve been so disappointing over the last 10 years. We are on the right track. We have the right coach. We are going to be ok. Everyone should just step back from the ledge and relax. It’s going to be a good year.

Florida is the question mark. They got arguably the best QB and offensive mind in all of college football. Will be eager for that game. After today, I do think if we beat Florida we do 8-4. Loss to Gators is 7-5.

PS- hope you have been well! Long time since we posted vs each other. JG has added some zip to his passes. Solid game.

That 2007 Saban team never lost by more than 7. They lost to ranked GA in overtime and trashed a ranked Tennessee 41-17.
We’re not doing any of that.

No, not “and coach”. This is a team that has been incorrectly labeled as a talented team. It’s not. We have some pieces here and there, but overall looks like the maybe the 10th or 11th most talented team in the conference. Then throw in the “scar tissue” that the holdovers from Jones has, and you get a major rebuild. Pruitt is clearly an outstanding football coach, but he has his work cut out for him. His first order of business is to get the younger, newest, more talented players currently on the roster developed and up to speed to quickly replace the ones that he had no choice but start/go with in game one. And then he’s gotta recruit at a very high level and turn the roster over/purge it with the Jones era dead weight players asap. It’s just not fair to label him a bad coach at this point given the unmitigated ish hand he has been dealt. It’s gonna take him a minute.

If Pruitt thinks this is a complete rebuild then he should have benched as many of the Butch problem players as possible. We were told during the off season that Pruitt was running off the Butch players that were weak and didn’t want to compete for their job. Maybe he missed a few or maybe, like with bringing Keller Chryst on, he doesn’t know how to identify the best players and build a team since this is his first time ever being a head coach. This isn’t UGA, FSU, or Bama where he walked into stacked rosters and his options were ranked 1A and 1B.

I expect to see many of Butch's players transfer after the season. It will be addition by subtraction.

Saying that Saban was 7-6 in his first year at Bama is a dumb, dumb argument. By the time Saban got to Bama, he already had a National Championship ring as head coach at LSU and was a proven head coach. There was very little doubt about what he would/could accomplish at Bama.

To equate that to Tennessee's situation is just plain stupid.

Absolutely the dumbest post of the night and trust me there was plenty to choose from. Fans like you is what's keeping the revolving door at head coach swinging how is ANYBODY supposed to build anything if you turn on them after 1 game their first year. RIDICULOUS!

Dear lord.. the man has only had the team for 9 months. Get over yourself. What did you expect? The players have not had any real development in over 5 years!

Pruitt himself didn't expect to when that game. It takes more than 1 game to correct mistakes, more than 1 off season to correct the likes of Lyle's stupid ideology of what football really is .
