im just saying sabans career started off pretty rough, only two 10 win seasons in his first 10 years as a coach. dooley is gonna be allright just needs more time and some stability in our coaching staff for a change

he sure didnt build a great program at msu overall record 34-24-1, 10 games over .500 , not very legendary

thats less than 7 wins a year, next stop lsu, 48-16 in 5 seasons, averaged 9 wins a year, very fulmer like (also averaged 9 wins a year at ut) then bama 51-11 , 10 wins a year ( maybe rising after this season) so like i was saying he got good at bama, before he was below fulmer status

Seriously, have you looked at how crappy Michigan State when he got there. He turned an 0-11 team into a 6-5-1 team in a year. Not only that, he kept that crappy team in that bowl echelon for a few years.

At LSU, he took a team that was 3-8, and won an SEC Championship with that squad just two years later, and won a national title just 4 years later.

At Alabama, he took a 6-7 team and went undefeated in the regular season just two years after taking over, and won an SEC/national championship just 3 years later.

Compare this to Fulmer, who was sitting on a gold mine of talent when he started.

coaches like saban and spurrier at recruiting powerhouse states/schools records are awesome. however at schools where they really have to recruit like msu and usc jr records are far more average. now a question i ask is are they really good coaches or just fortunate to be at schools where its easy to recruit??

Yes, Nick Saban is that good of a coach. Had he stayed at Michigan State, that program could have won a national championship.

Good coaches shine through, even when they don't take over the best of situations.

I feel like this is leading towards a "give Dooley time" post.

so is les miles a bad coach because he landed on a gold mine of talent?? also saban didnt take over an 0-11 team they had all their victories taken away because of forfeit wikipedia nick saban 92-94 mich st team records before all victories taken by forfeit were 5–6, 6–6 and 5–6 so he marginally improved them

Actually, most people prior to this year thought Les Miles was a bad coach, but that's beside the point.

Saban's Michigan State team that went 10-2 in 1999, ended up going 5-6 in 2000 under a different coach. It took Michigan State 11 years to post a double digit win season (2010) after Saban left.

He cuts a lot of players. If they are not what he wants he cuts them. That is why the new rules to offer a 4 year deal will hurt his recruiting.

Almost every coach in the SEC, sans Mark Richt, does that. It's not like it's a uniquely Nick Saban thing to do.

yeah but saban didnt coach the bowl game in 99 so his team went 9-2, also he knew he had a large graduating class and the cupboards were bare so he bolted like lightning at a chance to get in the sec

He recruited those players that went 10-2? Yeah, he did. The team that he recruited went 10-2.

Michigan State or LSU....

Yeah, I don't know which one I'd choose either.

Because Saban has done so terrible since those guys left.

a head coach is only as good as his assistants like fulmer was real good with cut as off coor, not so good without....saban does have a knack for hiring great assistant coaches alah coach Dooley
